Hello everyone!

My name is Nikki and I’m a third year college student at Winona State University. A group of students and myself are putting on a “Freedom Store” at our University to raise money to fight against Human Trafficking (Modern day slavery) by selling products hand made either by actual human trafficking victims or things donated by creative artists like yourself! There are 27 million people enslaved in our world today.

We are searching out creative individuals who would possibly be interested in donating any of their work to help the cause! (Obviously if you would want some of the profit that would definitely be up to you!) God has blessed us all with so many unique gifts and talents in which we can use to serve others! If you are interested in any way at all in anyway at all please contact me and I’d love to give you more information!

-Human Trafficking is a huge issue in Minnesota and the money raised will go to an organization in Minneapolis called ‘Breaking Free’

http://www.catwinternational.org/about/breaking_free.php

Anything will help! Thank you so much for your time!

God Bless

I had the wonderful experience of being part of a team that was setting up lighting in the 10,000 square foot tent in North Miami for the coming celebration of arts in that region. The physical labor was worth it, as I silently conjured the phrase “this is for the arts” while I fatigued my body by raising giant trusses on which lights would be secured to accent the visual works of sublime and intriguing ideas.

The entire set of events (the occurrence of artistry) is well described by these links.

Enjoy!

http://aquaartmiami.com/hotel.html (water water everywhere. man, I need a drink.)

http://www.newartdealers.org/miami/2008/ (oh, nothing)

http://www.pulse-art.com/pulse-miami.htm (it’s alive!)

http://www.artbaselmiamibeach.com/ (they should use basil in all the hors d’oeuvres)

http://www.artnowfair.com/ (general info, so you know, from G.I. Jo)

http://criticalmiami.com/tag/art/ (contemporary history in the region)

I hope you pass the word(s) about the lunacy that goes on here.

Next post will feature two artistic giants from a little further North.

    All good things.

ScribeFire is an editor that opens from a small icon on the bottom of your FF. You just let it know once the name and address of the blog you use. Pop in your username and password. Then whenever you find something of interest pop it into the editor, choose the blog to send it to and hey presto, it posts direct to your blog.

You dont have to fuss about not having the time to keep going from page to page, and you can see what you are writing about as you write so it is a constant reminder

He realized he would not have time to think about her as he neared the foothills. The journey was not incredibly long, but the contours of the land would allow him to see the range he came from. The land was granting him time to think, and was, in that sense, giving him a simple message.

He steps upon the incline and begins to think those clear notions brought about by the fresh air. It could have been his desire to be free as much as it was his desire of her, but there was not reason for cultivating thoughts other than the azure sky overhead and copious aromatic soliloquy of the birch and pines that framed the trail he walked. He started to wonder with honest lust for life, with wonder for the natural splendor that he was surrounded by and that he could not deny he was a part of, he wondered if there could be something, something wide stretching and all being if not all knowing, watching his movements as if he were a sugar ant walking across a table whose life solely relied upon the mercy of the one watching. He got to thinking further about the fruit on the trees, the way birds flying free are forever etched in his memory as counterparts to the burgeoning seed-baring sweets in visions of a summer afternoon. He imagined birds knowing the flavor of the fruit and somehow discerning the name of the fruit the same way humans had pulled from the voluptuous juices those clear definitions readily used on market and roadside signs. Names present from one language to another, from one species to another. The scope of life includes the entire spectrum of names, of fruits, of birds and perspectives through which to see the world. The world he could not ignore. The world he was blatantly a component of.

The pillars of his personality, those actions and memories that created his mask that made him different from others, all those factors were becoming less significant. His talents, his individuality, they did not measure up to much in the grandeur of the larger world making itself known to him. The foothills were a minor barrier to where he was going, but he found the rhythmic breathing that accompanied his steps a reprieve from the relentless worries and concerns of his modern life. How fortunate he felt to have these moments alive to experience the world. The constant struggle of his daily life seemed to no longer apply to him but only to some shadowy form of what he used to be. The slight breeze moving through his hair swept away concerns that were once of the utmost importance. Tides of guilt, certainty, surety and self were washing away and he was looking upon the dusty road with the gracious love he imagined an illimitable being, who defies proper naming despite the repeated attempts human make at creating a name, a notion and a formed mass of intellectual compartment in which to easily house the essence of the illimitable being, the kind of love that could be bestowed on what no longer would be insignificant components despite their miniscule size in comparison to the watcher.

The meaning of libraries of knowledge, voluminous quantities and qualities of sensations, phone calls and bills, websites and caricatures from the world he was previously wandering through, reflections of this grander picture of the world. This magnificent workings of natural timetables and organic schedules in which the hustle of those activities he called his life did reside. This background that quietly existed despite being taken for granted by the momentous millions moving as though their actions generate the world beyond what they know, that world as it is, was silently and brilliantly displaying secret nooks of knowledge cleverly hidden in plain sight to the traveler as he traversed the foothills.

What abruptly came upon the time, and became, in its clarity, through his mind was of a nature both nonsensical and serene for his thoroughly trained soul. Even his keen sense of devotion to the world at large while maintaining his strict individualistic persona seemed like wordy absurdity in comparison to the plain truth of the hike. The truth, however, being uncompromising, is best broached by humans, who value the fluidity of thought and ambiguous uncertainty of chance, as questions. And so he thought,

“Is it that there are so many humans alive at any given time that we are without much difference from each other within a generation? That the lines we use to define our world are drawn by our prehensile minds to give us something to grasp as me move through the world? The world has defined articles and components, but if we see such similarity between beings that we declare a category for them, what would be gained from deciding them to be different by any and all means? The differences are there, and I can see clearly that I am different in person from another, so why would I need to exalt those differences when cooperation is what eases the burden of survival? As I walk through these foothills I know I am a being different from a man at a diner in a city, but if we were both out here in the wilderness, vying for our survival, would it not be intelligent, if not compassionate, to combine our efforts to better ensure survival? What changes from the wilderness to the city that poses mankind against itself through the competitive nature of its individuals? Could it be that individuals crave and thrive upon the feeling of further defining their individual nature? What if, by trying to retain our individual sense of being, we preclude ourselves from the cooperation needed to help us all thrive? What if there is no idea created by one person that is not also experienced by another person before it is communicated? What if the difference in talents and the abilities, the differences of how the larger world shapes each person into a uniquely defined individual, is all the difference there is? What if the greatest difference between any two people living at the same moment was really not that much at all? What if other people have these thoughts, or thoughts very similar to these that convey the same ideas? Would that make me less unique? And if it made me and them less unique, would we be any less exquisite as living beings? Would we not find a certainty of common understanding that can lead to heights of success in our collective endeavors far beyond that of past endeavors? Could it be that, as it is, cooperation, co-creation, is the key?”

The darkening sky brought a gust a chilled air to his lungs, and he savored the feeling of its presence within him. The connectedness of his being with the world stoked his drive to survive and rendered null his fears and fatigue. The content of his mind made him content, and he required no makeshift shelter to get him through the night. Thoughts would be less confining this night, they would carry him through to his destination. The hope of his heart would bring him comfort in the dark, and he could tell that before the last of the sunset had faded into the solution of ever expanding starlit sky, he would be, like many before him and certainly many after him, through the foothills.

He had used to know of loneliness on such nights, but he had forgotten it in the light of romantic solitude.

****************

Perhaps it is because this website could use another author,

or perhaps it is because yet another film version of Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World” is currently being filmed (even though Vonnegut’s “Player Piano” would be a better movie…seriously, I have already turned it into a script if anyone is interested) and the idea of how our world is progressing and how we cope with the changes, from the greatest innovations socially to the individual leaps ahead,

this post had to be made exactly as it is.

Thank you for letting it be part of the wonderful artistry that this website celebrates.

All good things.

Walter Paul Bebirian is a wonderful artist and photographer, who I was lucky enough to interview on 1stAngel several months ago.
I was searching through his galleries (he is a prolific artist and has over 6000 galleries to peruse) and I came across this gorgeous image of flowers.

The colours are amazing and marry so well together. With the delicate and the strong combined this is a beautiful image to hang on any plain wall you may have in your home or office.

Absolutely beautiful!

Three films produced by Salford Media students have been shortlisted for the upcoming North West Royal Television Society Awards 2008.

Up for the RTS Professional Award is Carefree, a documentary based around the experiences of three parents caring for children with learning difficulties. Producer Angela Byrne and director Nigel Hoar created the film, which has been broadcast on Channel M, as part of their MA Television Documentary and Production course.

Director Nigel is proud that the nomination raises awareness of young people with learning disabilities. “It is my dream to further the cause of people in the community with learning disabilities, and promote an inclusive, non-patronising way of looking at the world,” he said.

In the Undergraduate Student Awards are Ben Hood for his BA Media and Performance piece Happy as Harry, and the 40-strong team of Journalism and Broadcasting students involved in the production of cultural strand Zeitgeist.

Zeitgeist, which is broadcast monthly on Channel M, is an arts and culture programme that focuses upon the hidden gems of the Manchester culture scene.

Paul Barron, Channel M Project Manager, sums it up: “We are very proud to see Salford students getting the recognition they deserve. The wide range of the films really captures the diverse possibilities of what we do here, and we wish all the nominees the best of luck.”

The winner of the Professional Awards will be announced in a final ceremony on 15 November, with the Student Awards ceremony following on 23 November.
