There's only so many times you can hear the same things said in different ways.
Hi, I'm Al Young: a serial pedant and self-obsessive. Some people like to say that I like to write.
My writing? The result of caffeinated beverages and a lack of sleep. And, of course, a perverted passion for the written word.
I eat, I feel, I fuck: I am human. Inextensibly so: I am no more than the product of all of those I have come into contact with. A mould of many potters’ hands, if you will; though a mould I would change for nothing. My experiences have made me who I am, and it suits me. The term ‘arrogant’ being bandied about as a derogative term upsets me more than nothing else. Strong self-assurance is a virtue.
I love music, and write for Starve in Heaven, a blog dedicated to the Birmingham music scene, just as I am. I will also be writing for a Birmingham-based music/arts fanzine in due time (most likely June 2008).
I also have Flickr, as a means of sharing my love for photography. I’m in it for the beer and bitches. I have a preference for film, and usually shoot with a Pentax MZ-M and either a Chinon 50mm f/1.9, Super Travenar 28mm f/2.8 or Hoya 135mm f/2.8. However, I also have a Fujifilm S5700 for my lazier moments.
I have high aims: Redbrick or higher university and then a job doing what I love. Hah, everyone’s dreams, really.
I hold strong views and I tend to be vocal about them, particularly those about religion. Nietzche was right: science has removed the need for a God and thus He/She/It is dead; and I think that we’d all be better off for accepting it.
Oh, hi: I’m Alexander Young and I really am as pretentious as to quote/reference philosophers in everyday conversation.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars At a recording pace of around one album per year since being signed as a solo artist, Frank Turner is definitely an artist for whom I have a fair amount of respect: his punk ethic has not been lost since his change of pace fr...
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars This is the only time I have ever even considered reviewing a single, but there’s a more than good enough reason for it: excitement over the 22nd September, Daisy’s (Brand New’s fourth studio album) releas...
