This is so intense and such a serious topic, I'm a singer/songwriter, and I wrote a song about this topic, you can listen to it at www.myspace.com/thethingstheycarriedband. It is called "An Ode To Rachel Winters" My band is The Things They Carried. The Song is about a women who is abused by her husband and feels trapped in a situation where she has no idea what to do, or where to go. And I read your blog, and it made me think of the song. Domestic violence is such a problem in this world. Hope this song touches the listeners. www.myspace.com/thethingstheycarriedband,

Maria Phelps is living proof that one person can make a difference! Rather than complaining from the side lines Maria has taken action and helped to fight for the righs of domestic violence victims head on! Bravo Maria you are a refreshing voice and great at what you do! Lobbying for bills and encouraging victims rights!

I stand and applaud what you are doing! It takes great courage to speak out and statistically most women do not have the courage to get out.

Have you tried setting up an account with an online petition to collect signatures to petition the NY Government with? That may be a way to go. I'll find the addy and email it to you.

HUGS, and keep smiling, you are doing the right thing, but you don't need me to tell you that.
