Mr. Sharpton,
My nephew was arrested on 11/4/09 on a warrant charge that was unpaid. Before the arrest a few officers approached my nephew and beat him. He has a black eye, possible dislocated shoulder, bruises on his neck due to the police officers beating. There were numerous witnesses to this abuse, the reported bruises was reported by the lawyer and she emphasized that he needs medical attention which he hasn't received. The family was trying to find him but there were no reports available until today 11/6/09 which he faced a judge. He saw the judge and due to his ignorance he/she was annoyed and asked for a 500.00 dollar bail. We reported the abuse to internal affairs and the officer involved to our report is officer Davis (212) 741-8401.
He is the main issue, my nephew suffers from mental retardation/emotional disturbance and I think that the approach overally should of been more sensitive. My nephew doesnt know how to read or write although he finished high school. He doesnt know his full address and let alone how to travel. After the fact everyone should of been aware of his disability and due to this development his case should of been handled with a mental issue case. The beaten was unnecessary and keeping him behind bars should of been even more unnecessary. Is now November 7 and we trying to post bail but he cant be found. No one has any idea where he has been transferred to and I cant find him on line.
Please advise.
Thanks
Paulita Santos
