Never thought I'd be posting anything like this, but I fear I have to now.

Just wanted to let you know that I'm now open to take painting commisions, which I can also send you as a print.

I am in desperate need of money to fund my trips to the UK and to fund my future career (as in to buy digital painting material).

What do I paint?

Realistic digital portraits based on photographs, cartoons, and other stuff if you are willing to pay extra for my extra time spent.

How much does it cost?

15 pounds for a photorealistic portrait.
10 pounds for cartoons.
20 pounds for anything special.

extra for prints

small: 10 pounds
medium: 20 pounds (comes in tube)

(in some cases, depending on painting size)
big: 30 pounds (comes in tube)

(this is shipping included)

I can also put things on mugs or tshirts or other things if you want, but I don't know the pricing, so if you want that, just let me know and we'll work it out.

If you want to buy prints of something I've already painted, as a non-commision, you just have to pay the print costs as mentioned above.

For examples go here. The first 8 are the standard I'm at now.
----

A long shot, I know, but worth a try?

To commission me, send me an e-mail here.

I know there are still quite a lot, and I'm sorry, but I felt that if I left any more out, I would be selling you short.

The first bunch of photos are of me. Some were taken along the river Thames and some down at Canary Wharf. I have walked/rolled along the Thames before, but Canary Wharf was something else. It's a dock, full of business buildings, restaurants and shops, and it is all private property, which is amazing. It's full of policemen, which is a bit bizarre for a Dutch girl like me. It is also insanely busy.

Following is a picture of a clock on St. Pauls Cathedral. Officially, two liters of water must enter your body in 24 hours. I think I speak truth, or at least from experience, when I say that most of us in our computer driven world often forget our fluids.

Well, I have come up with a plan to get enough to drink for myself and anyone that would like to use it.

First of all, know that coffee and anything with caffeine do not count on the list of drinks because these things subtract water from your brain. This also counts for tea unless it's herbal tea of some kind.

That said, you should have any milk or water-based drink (or a glass of just water) when:

you've just been to the toilet

anyone else around you has a drink

you eat something

your computer crashes

your computer has to restart

there is a commercial break during your tv-show or film

you discover you have a headache

Doing that, you should be fine in getting two liters of water into you each day. It's working like a charm for me.

Nevertheless, it is quite important and can actually be fun. Here follow 10 reason why anyone should read the newspaper:

It's important to know what is going on in the world, because you have to live in it.

When you have read the newspaper, chances are that you can join 40% more conversations than when you haven't read the newspaper.

The newspaper has awesome book, film and cd-reviews that you really don't want to miss out on.

You might find yourself an interesting topic in the newspaper to write about on your blog or anywhere else on the Internet.

Most of the time there are little games or puzzles in the newspaper which can help make reading easier as the questions tend to be about topics in the newspaper.

There are funny comics based on topics discussed in the newspaper.

It will remind you how lucky you are, because the newspaper is full of stories about people far worse off than you are.

The newspaper has a nice and handy tv- and radio guide.

Newspapers often have awesome photography and illustrations.

By reading the newspaper you are enlightened about other people's opinions, which will broaden your horizon and learn you something new.

So, kids, read that newspaper!

In roleplaying, participants adopt and act out the role of characters, or parts, that may have personalities, motivations, and backgrounds different from their own. Roleplaying, also known as RP to some, is like being in an improvisational drama or free-form theater, in which the participants are the actors who are playing parts, and the audience.

People use the phrase "role-playing" in at least three distinct ways:

to refer to the playing of roles generally such as in a theater, or educational setting;

to refer to a wide range of games including computer role-playing games, play-by-mail games and more;

or to refer specifically to role-playing games.

The version I'm going to be teaching you is similar to play-by-mail, which already tells you a lot. The easiest way I can describe it is as storywriting, with more than one author. Everyone picks one or more characters to roleplay, meaning your writing should focuss on these characters. In most cases, it's not even allowed to decide what other characters say or do.

Media to use in roleplay can differ from e-mail, to forums, to more direct means such as instant messenger applications.

Now I will give you a step-by-step tutorial on roleplaying, disregarding the chosen media. That doesn't really matter.

1. Picking your form

There are two different ways to roleplay:

Canon (using characters and stories from existing fandoms such as Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings)

Original (making up your own story and original characters)

I shall give you the pros and cons of both ways:

Canon

pros: Characters have already been established, rules of the worlds have been set, storyline are already partly formed.

cons: You have to know the characters well to make your roleplaying at all believable, you are limited by the rules and regulations of the existing world, people have expectations.

Original

pros: You have all the freedom in the world, no one can tell you you are being out of character, no one can limit your imagination.

cons: Setting up rules, a world and a storyline is difficult, building the characters into believable personas is hard, there is a risk of making your roleplay too lengthy and slow, thus boring.

2. Picking your plot

After picking your kind of roleplay, you have to start deciding about your plot. This includes your setting, your characters and your story.

2.1 Picking your setting

Canon
If you have chosen to go Canon, first you have to decide what kind of fandom you wish to roleplay in. Once you have done that, you must choose a starting point for your roleplaying. Easiest would be picking the ending of a film or book, or a certain breakpoint in the already existing story, from there, given you know the characters well, it's easy to start. Important to know is where you are, when you're there and why you are there.

Original
More tricky is picking a setting for an original roleplay. My tip is to first decide on your genre; adventure, angst, romance, humor, or of course a mix of many. Once you've done that, it's easiest to first determine some traits of your world, it's general in habitants and it's culture. Stick to basic time frames: past, present or future. Don't hesitate to stick to clichés. After all, roleplay is meant to be fun, not a masterpiece.

2.2. Picking your characters

Canon
Picking your characters for a canon roleplay is pretty easy. Most people pick main characters of fandoms, others, who fancy more of a challenge, choose the smaller roles. Important is that you and your fellow roleplayers pick characters that would somehow meet each other, or have met each other. Picking characters that wouldn't, in character, ever meet, is pointless. Choosing a canon roleplay doesn't mean that orginal characters aren't allowed. Just make sure they fit with the canon.

Original
Picking your original character is a difficult business. I generally find that for an original roleplay, plot developments all go together. But most of the time, once you have picked your setting, genre and timeframe, you can come up with something sensible. Especially for beginners, it's important to make sure your characters aren't too complicated and most of all, that they fit together.

2.3 Picking your storyline

Canon
Picking your storyline for a canon roleplay isn't as hard as picking one for an original roleplay. Easiest is to pick the ending of a book or movie, or pick a breakpoint in the story to start at. Given you know the characters well, you should know what they genrally do in their lives and you can use that to create a plot. However, in roleplay, it's not necessary to plan everything, because it's a colaborative project that needs to grow and for the most part relies on the spontanious actions of your co-authors.

Original
Plotting your storyline in an original roleplay is more difficult, but I can give some tips on this matter. I find it easiest to start in the middle of something, be it a fight, a flight, or a dinner, it doesn't really matter, but it gives your roleplay a kickstart. Keeping a bit of action in our roleplay is always good. Don't focus too much on character development on a short notice, this is more a lengthy process.

3. Picking your writing style

After you've determined your plot, you have to decide what style you want to use. You can pick between first or third person and past and present tense.

First person
Writing in first person means that you write your actions starting with I. Example:

I walked briskly towards the nearest post office to check if his package had arrived yet.
This form of writing focusses on your own character a lot and allows for much thoughts and character development. This gives your writing a 'diary' feel.

Third person
Writing in third person is more siuitable for a big colaberative project, as it often portrays a general view instead of a character focussed one. Example:

Lizzie walked briskly towards the nearest post office to check if his package had arrived yet.
Less selfcentered, this form of writing is more inviting to other readers and writers.

Present tense
Writing in the present tense means writing the story as if it is happening right now. Example:

I walk briskly towards the nearest post office to see if his package has arrived yet.
I personally find this a very unattractive form of writing because it often makes it difficult to get sucked into the story.

Past tense
Writing in the past tense means writing as if it's already happened. Example:

Lizzie walked briskly towards the nearest post office to check if his package had arrived yet.
Most novels are written in the past tense.

4. Structuring your roleplay post

Writing a roleplay post is a difficult task to accomplish, as others rely on your story to reply to. Thus, a elaborate piece of writing is nice. Include actions, descriptions and dialogue. Try to direct it to other people's characters too. Example:

Lizzie walked briskly to the nearest post office to see if his package had arrived yet. The streets were busier than she had hoped for, causing her to be delayed at three traffic lights on her way there. She crossed the last street in a run, skidding to a halt on the sidewalk as she saw him standing there. "What are you d-doing here?" she stammered, smiling, "But you said, the package, in the mail.... not... what are you doing here?"
Lizzie ran a hand through her hair as she approached him, glowing with happiness to see him.
The more you give the other roleplayers to go on, the easier it is for them to reply. In this case, the 'he' in the above paragraph would be the other person's character.

This more or less concludes the step-by-step how to, but lastly, some do's and dont's.

5. Do's and dont's

Do's

Communicate with your fellow writers about the storyline, especially if the roleplay gets stuck.

Write long posts.

Try to include everyone.

Respect your fellow roleplayers.

Take a challenge.

Use ((OOC: your message)) to talk about things nothing to do with the roleplay, in your post.

Stay in-character.

Have fun.

Dont's

Roleplay someone else's character without permission.

Kill or seriously injure someone else's character or do anything the other person might not like.

Do something your character would never do.

Make your character perfect, or extreme in any other way. Don't give your character superpowers unless the story requires it.

Write one-liners (one or two setenses posts).

Post only once in three months.

Make it all about you.

6. For more information

If the above has made you interested in the art of roleplaying, or you simply have a question, leave a comment on the post and I'll get back to you.

For me, that person has been my grandfather, my mother's father. That is, until I very recently got to meet him. Well, meet him, not quite.

My grandfather died in a carcrash on September 23rd, 1963, when my own mother was but thirteen. While she only had thirteen years of her life to get to know him, I never got any at all. I very often asked her about him, and she told me all she knew, but most she forgot, which I can't possibly blame her for. When my grandmother was still alive, I was still too young to even think about asking her about him. I didn't care very much at the time, either. I was used to not having any grandparents but her, because my father's parents died before I knew them, too.

Nevertheless, when you grow older, you start to wonder about them. Looking at your own parents, you see yourself in them and you wonder whether it was the same for them with their parents. Well, today, I was lucky enough to get to see my grandfather, as videotapes from their time have recently been transfered onto dvd by my aunt, who then sent them over.

The first dvd immediately shows my mother as a baby, with my grandmother (Riet) in Indonesia. She and Pim (my grandfather) moved from Holland to Indonesia in 1949, to a place called Bogor, where Pim worked on plantations of coffee, tea and rubber. He was possibly sent there by the University of Wageningen, where he used to study tropical agriculture.

It delighted me to see Riet at such a young age, she looked quite beautiful, and so very happy. My mother, as a child, just looked angry a lot, for some reason. My heart skipped a beat, though, when I saw Pim with my mother. I'd seen him before on fainted photographs, but to see him actually move felt strange but amazing. It was delightful to see him play with my mother and a litter of kittens.

Later, I saw my aunt after she was just born, and the wonder of her older sister was amusing, not to say endearing. Pim looked a proud father, also at the party for my mom's 2nd birthday, where he taught her how to ride her kiddie bike. I think that was the last footage of him on the dvds, the rest was more or less filmed by him.

It was interesting to see the plantation and the people who worked there, all filmed by Pim. Makes me realise how we don't know hard labour anymore nowadays.

The family moved back to Holland in 1958. There is footage of my mom and aunts as young children, which made me smile, and kind of wish I had brothers or sisters. There is also footage of a period very close to Pim's accident, which was a bit strange to see. How you wish you could have warned them, right then.

All in all, a strange experience, but I'm glad I got to meet my grandfather.

This Disney classic was released in 1951, but failed horribly in the box office. Nevertheless, it is looked back on as somewhat of a cult-classic.

Now, Tim Burton's rendition of the classic tale, scheduled for release in 2010, is promising to be a spectacle. It's said that the film is going to be full of 3D-animation, while using real actors and motion-tracking to make it realistic. What an IMAX-experience this is going to be.

Recently, the main character, Alice, was cast. Seventeen year old Aussie Mia Wasikowska is the lucky girl. Rumors of Johnny Depp playing 'the Mad Hatter' have being going around for some time already. Depp has said to be interested in the role but nothing is confirmed. However, it would be a perfect role for the world famous actor, who has joined forces with Burton six times, taking on roles such as Willie Wonka and Sweeney Todd in Burton's masterpieces. Depp is often called Tim Burton's alter-ego.

Is Alice in Wonderland not done too many times already? Maybe, but if anyone should be doing it, it is Tim Burton.

On www.dictionary.com, on the main page, there is this thing called 'word of the day'. Today's word happens to be spoony. It just so happens that these sort of things can supply you with plenty of blogging ideas, because you are given something to hold onto, and are forced to focus.

So who knows, maybe if I run out of ideas today, I'll write a post based on the word spoony!

Then went on an did CSS, oh my gee.

Do you guys like the scrolling or is it annoying? If not, I might do a design like this for this blog. Or make one with a repeating background. Or maybe you want one for yours. Let me know, and I'll get back to you about it.

It keeps their lives organised and prevents boredom, because there is always something on one list or another that they can do.

As for me...Lists drive me up the wall. Any kind of list. Even the interactive to do lists you can make on the internet.

Let's take grocery lists. I write one, forget to put half the things I need on the list. I go to the store, fumble in my bag for my list, and realise I've left it at home. Useless. Or, in case I have brought it with me after all, half the stuff I need is not on there anyway, or, even worse, I buy two times as many things that aren't even on my list. I function best without the list, even though I still forget half, but at least I don't buy too much.

Actual to do lists are just as bad, I put things on it, but forget to update the list. Most of the time I don't feel like doing the things on the list, thus the list is useless again.

I can't make proper lists of favorite movies either because there are too many and I can't do it for books or favorite songs either.

Go away lists.

I say no to to do lists

I say no to grocery shopping lists

I say no to favorite things lists

Aaaaaaaaaaah it's a list!

Strangely, during your life, everyone has to go and change it for you. Nicknames can be both loving or hateful, obvious or strange. These names very often say more about a person than a conversation with them can.

I've never had many nicknames, but still a few that are worth mentioning.

Mentos - Way back when I was still in primary school, I was very often called Mentos, because I used to have Mentos with me all the time.

Maart - My name is Maartje but I am still very often called Maart. 'Je' is like 'let' in piglet.

Faye - Faye is the name most foreigners find easier to pronounce than Maartje. Faye is the name (Fayestardust) I use for most online communities. It originated from Faye Stardust, which was the first fictional character that I ever created.

I've yet to get a nickname given to my by a lover, which I need to find first.

So, what are your nicknames, where do they come from and what do they mean? If you think this could be a Meme, give me suggestions of how to make it a good one...

This makes it rather hard for me to try and get my name out there again, not being able to rely on friends' help because they are simply no longer out there.

The best tip I've ever had on how to get involved and noticed in the blogging world is that you should comment on other blogs and articles. Thing is, right now, I don't know where to make my comments anymore.

As to why I think blogs do generally have a short lifespan? Well, at some point you've just written it all, haven't you? I found new inspiration at random moments, so that's why I am back again. I also learned to open my eyes a bit more, I read the news now, I have a better view on the world. Even though I'm not known for writing about serious world-news issues, I can always resort to that if need be.

Nevertheless, being back feels so incredibly good it makes me smile broadly.

What I do is take a pressure sensitive brush, and softly go over the edges where two colours come together with the darker colour, and then colourpick the colour that I created by doing so and go over it again with that colour, creating a smooth blend.

I added darker colours and reds to improve the shading and mood.

Depending on how many times I go over things, it gets smooth. As you can see, I smooth out some parts and leave others for later, I'm lazy like that. Started on the first extra colouring of the eyes, but still very basic.

The end. Stay tuned!
