REDUCING DRIFT WHEN UNDER SAIL
Fluid dynamics says drag created by vortices from flow across edges is greater when the edges are sharper. Also interrupting flow with barriers creates a force that will combine with edge drag. So...

Can drift be reduced by having chines augmented by ridges at the chine?

If the answer is 'Yes', then shallow draft boats could be designed to be better at resisting drift under sail than deep keel boats.

Please discuss.
