These are old posts, but the best ideas on starting a bookkeeping business was from a book called "How to open your own in-home bookkeeping service 2nd Edition" by Julie Mucha-Aydlott. I bought mine from Amazon and found it through an article in entrepreneur magazine online written by Paul and Sarah Edwards who write for home based businesses, but there is also a website and I was able to get questions answered from the author (which was linked from the entrepreneur article). it is http://www.inhomebookkeeping.bizland.com There are also some other books out there that were helpful like Successful QuickBooks Consulting also available on Amazon. I think it is easier to work with an outsourced payroll service rather than bringing it in-house. If you are a one person office, you never have time for vacations!

I went and bought the book. I always tell people to use a payroll service, I tried to do payroll and it was a nightmare. Thanks for the resource.
