Hello, this is John A again.

Regarding my previous comments on CheapoAir.com, I wish to retract 2 of my previous statements: (1)that they are a scam operation, and (2) that comments made in the Better Business Bureau (BBB) website about CheapOair.com is scary. I should not have made these 2 comments.

But in order to potentially help others, I do suggest checking CheapoAir.com out in the Better Business Bureau website before deciding whether to deal with them or not.

CheapOair.com is a scam operation. Comments made in the Better Business Bureau (BBB) website about CheapOair.com is scary and I found it from experience to be accurate.

Unfortubately, I dealt with CheapOair (CheapO) for a bit before checking the BBB website.

1st CheapOair told me a flight price will be $168 more than their advertised price of $337; a lame excuse was given for the price hike, but I agreed & gave credit card information..., because I fell for the line that "only one seat was available & that I wouldn't find a cheaper rate elsewhere."

To satisfy my curiousity, I then called the airline directly and was told several seats were available on the identical flight and the price would be $78 less than CheapOair's price.

I then called CheapO... to give the update; they explained that "prices change by the minute", and I could now have it for $45 less than their last quote, "because of the timing of my call." I agreed to the discount.

But curiosity motivated me to call the airline directly again, and lo and behold, I found out "prices change by the minute" is not accurate; their price remained the same & still cheaper than CheapO...(even after the $45 "discount).

I then called CheapO... and said "match the price I was quoted by the airline or I want to cancel the flight." They said they can't match the price, and there will be a $24 service fee if I cancel. I said "OK, let's cancel", since $24 + the airline direct price was still cheaper than CheapO...

CheapO... then said "what if another $7 is taken off the price", which would be the break even point to me going with the airline directly combined with paying the $24 cancelation charge paid to CheapO...

I wanted to get this over with, so I agreed to not cancel on that call, since I figured I'm losing $24 either way.

After we hung up, I was thinking how little trust I had in CheapO..., so I checked them out in the Better Business Bureau website, & what I read about them scared the bleep out of me.

I then called CheapO... and said I want to cancel the flight, & when they asked why, I felt great pleasure in saying "because I never want to do business with you guys..."

Then they said the "service" fee for canceling would be $50. As irritated as I was with Cheapo..., I actually laughed thinking about all their price changes, & said with a chuckle, "I was told the fee would be $24, why is it now $50?" I was put on hold & then told "OK, $24 is correct."

Oh, and I was told the refund will take 7 to 10 business days by one rep, 20 to 25 business days by another rep, and the last I heard is that it may take up to 12 weeks!

So, they are charging my credit card the full price of $500+ and will "refund" all but $24 of it some day.

All the above happened within a few hours, and I immediately called the credit card company to dispute the charge... Fortunately, the credit card company said the worst that will happen is that I'll lose the $24.

I'm lucky to only be potentially losing $24; it could have been a lot worse in dealing with CheapOair.com . I learned my lesson...

Check the Better Business Bureau website before deciding whether to deal with a company name that begins with "CheapO".

i would like to say that the service i have had with cheapoair is the poorist of any travel agent i have ever used.I phoned them internationaly at 2 dollars a min and was put on hold both times for around a half hr.The first time i was told by a guy caled scott that he would email me with the penalty charge and flight change but two days later i never heard from him.Secondly if i had booked this flight directly with the airlines i could have changed it easily and for a hell of a lot less.While i was waiting for a reply from cheapoair for 2 days all the available seats that were open for the date i wanted to travel were full but there were still seats available when i first contacted them but by the time i contacted them again the seats had been booked.I eventualy got a flight with the same air line that i wanted and a return flight was only a 150 dollars more than what cheapoair wanted to charge me for a oneway flight that i had already paid for once.I dont mind paying a fair price for a penalty but thier rate is completely rediculous and i will never book a flight hrough them again.Maybe they are ok for flights in the states but for international flights you are much better off going through the airlines direct.These travel agents say up to 50% off or better but when you go through the airlines direct it is just as cheap and if you have to change a flight it is very easy to do--so you do the math---DAN

College student from CA and I’ve been using cheapo air to fly home for holidays and vacations.

I cannot believe the deals I’ve been getting. I go to school at Penn but fly home to LA for xmas and summer. Thanks to this site, I’ve been getting direct flights for less than $200. The deals are pretty unreal.

I would recommend booking in advance if you can. The earlier you book, the more likely you are to get a great deal. I’ve had friends still get great last minute deals, but it becomes a little more difficult.

Overview
CheapoAir.com is excellent tool to use to ease price pain for last-minute travel and peak travel times. Hotwire has come through for me on a number of occasions when I otherwise wouldn't have been able to fit the cost of a trip into my budget.

On CheapoAir.com, you input your origin and destination airports or cities, dates of travel, and what you want (hotel, air, cruise, car, etc.). The search engine returns several combinations listed by price. Here’s where it gets tricky. In my own experience, I was only looking for airline tickets. I entered the dates, and the origin and destination airports. My search returned about two pages of options, listed by per-person cost, tax and fees included. Each option was broken down by departure and arrival during a specific time of day. For instance, one option said morning departure, afternoon arrival.


My primary experience with Cheapo Air has been air travel. When considering using Cheapo Air for travel, take a look at their airline partners. I've you've had repeatedly bad experiences with one of those airlines servicing the route you are booking, chances are other people have too, which may increase the likelihood of you receiving your ticket on that airline.

If one of the options is a 6am flight, and you’re not a morning person, it may be better to choose a published fare for a few dollars more.


If an airline causes an interruption in your travel plans, such as by missing a connection due to a delayed flight, and you would like to change your return date as a result, Cheapo Air will not be able to change it. If it was the airline's fault, sometimes contacting the airline directly will yield results. I've found that calling at off-peak times. gives the best results.


Conclusion

Since I started using it in 2003, CheapoAir.com has been an excellent resource. Beyond just saving money, it has allowed me to spend wonderful holidays and make trips that I otherwise wouldn't be able to afford.

Being a busy mom to two little children, I want flexibility so I can get home as soon as possible when I have to travel on business. CheapoAir.com has been such a huge help to me and my family because I can find and endless string of available flights.

I want to save as much money as I can when I go on vacation, as well. Cheapoair.com has always given me the best of both worlds. The site is easy to navigate and the advanced search feature saves me money because it shows alternate airports and flight dates/times.

Having used traditional travel agents for years, and trying most other travel sites, this one is my favorite. Travel agents do a great job, but you often will not be presented with every option available. This may not be a problem when your schedule is flexible, but if you want information, Travelocity provides it.

Some tips: Use the advanced flight option when you have a flexible schedule and you are looking for a bargain. Do not use the "hold reservation" feature if the price is ideal--it often goes up by the time you book the flight (because the cheaper fares sell out the fastest). The best prices seem to come up in the late evenings.

Absolutely horrible experience!
I booked a trip to Budapest for June, 2008 through CheapOair. I verified the reservations online at CheapOair and the airline, and I also verified them by phone with CheapOair and the airline. Then, for a brief period of time, my reservation completely disappeared from both the CheapOair and Malev system. I couldn't look it up online at all. When I got my e-tickets the travel dates had been changed to September, 2007! CheapOair refuses to return my reservations to the original date without charging a ridiculous fee. CheapOair? More like CheatOair. I would give them a 0 rating if it were possible.
