An Inconvenient Truth about Child Protective Services, Foster care, and
the Child Protection "INDUSTRY"

Child Protective Services Does not protect children...
It is sickening how many children are subject to abuse, neglect and even killed at the hands of CPS.

Number of Cases per 100,000 children in the US
These numbers come from The National Center on
Child Abuse and Neglect in Washington. (NCCAN)
Recent numbers have increased significantly for CPS

Perpetrators of Maltreatment

Physical Abuse CPS/Foster care 160, Parents 59

Sexual Abuse CPS/Foster care 112, Parents 13

Neglect CPS/Foster care 410, Parents 241
Medical Neglect CPS/Foster care 14, Parents 12
Fatalities CPS/Foster care 6.4, Parents 1.5

Imagine that, 6.4 children die at the hands of the very agencies that are supposed to protect them and only 1.5 at the hands of parents per
100,000 children. CPS perpetrates more abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse and kills more children then parents in the United States. If the citizens of this country hold CPS to the same standards that they hold parents too. No judge should ever put another child in the hands of ANY government agency because CPS nationwide is guilty of more harm and death than any human being combined. CPS nationwide is guilty of more human rights violations and deaths of children then the homes from which
they were removed. When are the judges going to wake up and see that they are sending children to their death and a life of abuse when children are removed from safe homes based on the mere opinion of a bunch of social workers.

I am a foster mother and after four years of fostering I have realized what a joke CPS is and that they have WAY too much power and truly don't do what is in the best interest of the children at all. It is so sad to think that these young workers have these childrens lives in their hands and don't take it seriously. I am trying to find a lawyer that will stand up to CPS but it is not easy.

Foster care takes a toll on almost all kids who must grow up in placement. One of the BIG problems with the foster care system is that the people who make the decision regarding what is "in the best interests of the child" haven't a clue what it is like to be a foster child or how to fix this broken system of care. A new book, titled Growing Up in the Care of Strangers: The Experiences, Insights and REcommendations of Eleven Former Foster Kids, counters most of the current practices and policies followed by the foster care system. More information about this book, its editors and authors is available at www.williamgladdenfoundation.org.

Good article, thanks for sharing. Do you have any links to the report you referenced? I would be curious about the any variables the study noted and further details. Hiring young, under qualified individuals is finally starting to catch up with welfare services across the county...even the numbers are starting to show it.

Dear Jennifer,
I understand where you are coming from, this view it's as old as the system itself. But, who is to decide when parents shouldn't be parents? You, the Government,a democrat, republican, a Christian, or an Atheist?
See where I am coming from?

"the "system" is certainly better than leaving the child with a drug addict, criminal, or parent involved in domestic violence."

Jennifer take a step back and look at all the things parents CAN'T control that OTHER people do to their children that are abuse/neglect. Those would be crimes would they not? I believe any form of child abuse is a crime. Social workers are not allowed to act as criminal prosecutors and unless a child dies or is severly physically abused they do not obtain the help of police. They "investigate" parents based on allegations, and then build a case off of "future" risks, when they never supported the allegations in the first place.

Even if they do support the allegations usually they do this by influence. They influence evaluations through their contracted evaluators. They will call children liars. The same children they are claiming they are saving.
Their drug and alcohol evaluators are accredited and licenced through The Department of Health. Their Domestic Violence evaluators are "experts" not Drs. and DM advocates receive funding from Judges, and the County and State. There is a finacial interest in those you and CPS brand addicts, actors of DM, and criminals.
Although CPS workers are not law enforcement they have the ability to access private files through County Solicitors. And although CPS can not by law use anything over two years old, they do. Say a parent smoked pot BEFORE they were a parent. CPS will say you smoke pot now and require drug tests at the parents expense. Unreasonable search and seizure anyone?

Do me a favor Jennifer, call a few lawyers tell them you have a CPS case you'd like to fight and see if they will represent you.

I know of incidents where mothers were "drug addicts." The child was then placed in Foster care and was dead within 4 months. That mother may have been an addict Jennifer but at least she keep that child alive longer then those who thought they knew what was in the best interest of her child.

And Jennifer, just because you think you know "the system and what's in a child's best interests doesn't mean you do.

I cannot imagine what you did to get your child into protective care in the first place! Because of this your opinion is a bit unreliable. You cannot compare kids in foster care to kids in the general population--these kids have been through hell with their parents and often have severe emotional and behavioral problems. I agree that there should be NO form of abuse in foster care (and CPS needs to seriously address this with more training for foster parents and should require respite care)but the "system" is certainly better than leaving the child with a drug addict, criminal, or parent involved in domestic violence. Just bacause you can have children doesn't mean you should.

Children are our future, yet it appears they are being alienated, used, abused, discarded, maimed, exploited and even murdered all in the name of power and money! I will do whatever I can to stop the abuse of innocent children, including my babies, that are being emotionally and possibly physically abused, thanks to our wonderful system! Please help me in my fight to reform CPS. They MUST be brought in line with lawful investigation practices, to maintain civil and Constitutional Rights. Stop the war against Americas families NOW! Injustice against one American is injustice against ALL Americans.
