A conspiracy of stupidity?
In my upbringing I learned go with the best I have until something better comes along. It has served me well and I suggest that it would also serve our country. There are many polarized groups pushing different alternate fuels but might I suggest that the best we have right now is CNG (compressed natural gas) It is plentiful, cheap, and needs little of the top two elements of cost - production cost and transportation cost. You also have taxes and profit to give you your consumer price. My findings have come from the University of Utah chemistry dept, the history channel, and the heads of Utah, Idaho and Nevada (NG) - natural gas companies.
1) It is safer than gasoline per a U of U chemistry professor
2) 2) We have a distribution system already in place that is 1000 times more extensive than gasoline. Tanker trucks distribute 99% of gasoline or diesel fuel. You can currently add a NG pump system to your home or business and fill your own vehicle. Many already do.
3) Those of us born after 1920 have become spoiled and brainwashed thinking we have to have a filling station on every corner. When we drive off the main road now this is something the prepared individual thinks about.
4) Utah according to the Salt Lake Tribune is on the cutting edge of is most practical, currently available fuel – CNG. 5) CNG requires the least production cost of any other fuel. No development costs. Usually NG is discovered with petroleum oil
5) In Utah, as of 10/31/07, CNG is $.64 a gallon yes that's .64 cents! In many other states the price is as high as $2.20 a gallon. The federal government currently has a $.50 a gallon rebate to all states dispensing CNG for vehicles. From the pricing differences above, I believe it’s easy to assume that many states are grabbing that rebate. And they say there interested in the environment and trying to encourage an environmentally friendly economy.
6) Next to sun power and wind power, CNG is the next most renewable resource. Natural gas is made up of 3 gases one of which is methane. Natural gas is usually over 82% methane. And CNG is 130 octane if there is a question about performance. Racing fuel is 110 octane. The regular most cars use is only 85 to 87.
7) Natural gas is also a fossil fuel BUT it has no hydrocarbons thus any carbon monoxide – the real bad stuff only carbon dioxide – plant life uses it. The planets current reservoirs of known NG are enough to supply the earth’s energy needs for the next 150 years. Canada alone has enough supplies for 50 years of the planet’s needs.
8) Reported by the History Channel, one of the Mega Disasters that hangs over our planet is global warming’s effect on the methane close to the polar ice cap. Those pockets could bubble to the surface and provide a flammable atmosphere in the future. Why not use it before it becomes a threat? Reduce the threat!
9) Every animal on earth produces methane. We currently collect the material to produce methane. It’s called sewage, fecal matter, and waste products. Over 60% of American homes are connected to a sewage collection system. Over 50% of American homes are connected to a NG supply system for heating. A symbiotic system would be to use our sewage collection plants in our larger metropolitan areas to produce NG. That NG could them be piped to our already existing Natural Gas providers. In Utah that is Questar. They in turn could pipe it to our homes and businesses for heating and power. Symbiotic.
I don’t pretend to have all the answers but there is something wrong. After driving a CNG vehicle for six months and speaking to the chemistry department at the U of U, I can say that I don’t understand why any family’s second car isn’t CNG and why every state doesn’t encourage CNG use over petroleum. Do I smell a lobbyist? What do you think?

Jimmy Carter was going to mandate that one third of America's cars would run on natural gas. Why did America let Ronald Reagan and the Republican Party stop that?

I am very interested in CNG and am currently looking for some place to convert my car to it. The only problem i have is i live in Alabama, and there is only one CNG filling station in the entire state. Now i know that there is the "phill" which can fill your car at home, but i have heard there are some problems with it. For one it takes 4 hours per 50 miles to fill up, which is a while. Second, after 6,000 hours of use of the "phill" it must be sent in to be re manufactured and this can only be done 3 times before it must be thrown away. Has anyone else heard of these problems or am i just overreacting to it? Also does anyone know if any neww, more advanced home filling systems are coming out soon? Thanks.

Here is more food for the brain. Why Ford Company which owns Volvo (Volvo has about 4 or 5 Bi-fuel modifications on sale in Europe along with tens of other bi-fuel cars there) does NOT sell a single Bi-fuel modification in the US, only their gasoline variant) Isn't it because the same people(the same 5% of us) that invested in oil also invested in the gas guzzlers of Ford, and then in the weapons that guarantee the oil delivery? One funny chain of businesses. The other starts with GMO Food and Fast Food and Coca Cola junk through obesity,Diabetes etc. to the Big Pharma. Nice people with their nice ways of doing business.
