The reporting agencies make money by selling our information to just about anyone. It should, at bare minimum be required that they mail a full credit rating plus credit score to everyone in their system every 6 months! It should not be required of the people to go through the bother of going to the three agencies, refusing dozens of clever option that will cost you, remembering passwords you haven't used since last year, and putting up with endless BS to get your reports. In addition, it should be required that a single easily accesable channel should be created to investigate any discrepencies in these reports.
As a further step toward fairness, it should be required that our major banks, insurance companies, and serivce providers also be given credit scores and that a basis should be calculated for discounts given to customers of institutions with poor scores. I know you think this last one is a joke but I bet if I applied for car insurance with AIG they would charge me extra because of my slightly above average scores, wouldn't they? Now I don't think I can get enough capital letters in HYPOCRISY for this situation. Honest, my credit would be better but I'm bailing your sad ass out!
