Dinner with Pati & Bruce
http://patid.wordpress.com
This blog is an account of our home-cooked meals for the year 2008 (and now 2009). The way it works is I prepare the main entree’ (I usually don’t follow a recipe–I like to think of recipes as reference and use them to generate ideas) while Bruce usually makes a salad to match. We eat the salad after we eat the main entree’. We always have a bottle of wine with dinner, so we’ve documented it as well. We don’t go by what’s best with white or red, we just drink what we like.

Pasta with Meatballs on November 18

I made chicken stock with the back and neck of the chicken we ate on Monday, and made miso soup with it on this night. I added dashi to the stock and simmered it for about 15 minutes before adding shiitake and blue oyster mushrooms, tofu, and tatso...
Roasted Chicken with Cilantro Gremolata on November 16
We bought a chicken from Norton Creek Farm at the Corvallis farmer’s market on Saturday. I cut it up into 6 pieces (made stock from the back & neck), and roasted it with a compound butter made with lemon zest, ginger, garlic, cumin, coria...
Sear-Roasted Pork Chops with Baked Beans on November 15
I made baked beans with some of the beans we bought from Matt-Cyn Farm: Maine Yellow Eye, which are traditional beans used for the dish. Most recipes I have state that the beans must be baked for anywhere from 5-9 hours at really low heat. I di...
Mushroom Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, and Roasted Greens on November 14
We spent the morning shopping at the Corvallis farmer’s market (the Newport market ended for the year on Halloween). From the bounty we brought home, we made a mushroom (chanterelle, shiitake, blue oyster) meatloaf with mushroom gravy, mashed...
