Behind the Lines (HVS 5a 33m) at Hodge Close Quarry is another climb that I seconded some time ago and have wanted to lead ever since. Being only my third ever 5a lead (the first was Endurance and the second kick Off) I was a little bit psyched but d...

Every time I’m in the Coniston area I find myself gazing up at Dow Crag. Having seconded Murray’s Route a few years ago I’ve kept promising myself that I’d return to lead it; but a combination of poor weather, poor planning an...

On a recent visit to Bowness on Windmere I was cheated by the owner of a B&b. We had made a booking for 3 nights at the Bay House Lake View. However this was cancelled and we stayed eventually at the marvellous New Bank Hall just next to the Pier.
Inspite of my terms of payment being a advance deposit of one day, that was non refundabale I was shocked when my bill came and I observed that Collin and Sandra the owners of the establishment had used my card details and debited the full duration of the stay of 3 days inspite of not staying there.
I had confirmed at the time of cancellation and it was as per my terms of booking and as agreed at the time of cancellation that loss of deposit of one day.
It is so shameful that inspite of not staying there nor agreeing 3 days money was surreptiously withdrawn form my card.
On contacting the owners they were rude and curt and began insisting on all kinds of clauses that never existed or were agreed.

It is common knowledge that if a booking is cancelled and the terms of booking restrict the liabilty to the deposit amount there is no way the card details can be used to make further debits.

One shudders at this trend and how the owners can get away with such unethical behaviour. I have take up the matter withe the credit card company but please be warned of such frauds that are being perperated.
Any one who can give help as to how I can recover this money ???

Really found the Lake District to be the most beautiful part of the country, and this blog is an excellent insiders guide to all the nnoks and crannies.
The London Snowman animation that i work on { www.thelondonsnowman.co.uk } has also enjoyed the Lake District as this is where his romantic interest lives, see here

as did another anthropomorphizing artist, Ms Potter.
Thanks all for a great blog.

The one place I actually wanted to discover and never did while living abroad in Blackburn, Lancs. This is probably a good resource if you plan on really exploring this part of the country. You might learn something the tourist guide books left out. Everyone I knew abroad told me to visit the Lake District and I should have.
