It bugs me when either party peddles a false meme before a certain event, as was the case last night with the “GOP is making a comeback if we win anything” talking points. And yet today the media is grabbing it hook, line and sinker. But...

I went to the Sarah Palin rally in Asheville NC. What I saw I was shocking. For one thing, the KKK was everywhere. It was like i went through a time warp back to 1958. I grew up in South Carolina. Sadly, I come from family who both owned slaves which they treated well but still owned, and some of whom supported KKK. I do what i can to make amends, but I know what they will do if I sign my name to this. The KKK is still active. It's hatred has great staying power. I write this in fear of a resurgence, an odd kind of speaking truth to power. They're masters at creating fear.
How much the KKK actually contributed to this rally I don't honestly know. I just know that I saw many KKK members and was given a business card by one member of the group. They were there to meet the potential Vice President (and maybe President) of our country and they were pretty vociferous. As for Sarah Palin, she was not entirely put off by their presence. She came out and said "Hey crowd, ya'll don't need another policy speech, instead lets have country first, not USA." She meant literally country music. A country music singer was present at the rally.
So this is my first hand account. I took my daughter with me. She's fourteen years old and I thought it would be a good lesson in American democracy, as was the Obama rally. She's very dear to me and always in my heart. She feels truth and justice in her bones, like a real American should as far as I'm concerned. But I exposed her to the worst of America. and I'm still shocked it was at a Republican rally for Sarah Palin.
Not all the people there were from the KKK, of course. But they were highly visible, someones handing out the KKK cards. And I was accosted by several of them, even followed to the men's room, apparently to keep me under surveillance, or perhaps to allow me to speak freely, hoping i had the fire of hate. Vote Tuesday for Obama and prove that this is not still a racist, or sick in the soul country.

People of all political viewpoints who want a truthful and civil discussion of the issues can express themselves here, but you can also join us in an e-mail campaign to tell the TV networks that they need to be responsible by reporting the real issues and checking the truthfulness of the candidates and their campaigns . Forward the message below to people you know and to the TV networks that we want them to STOP THE BULL!

Please send the following message to the networks and encourage other concerned citizens to do so. Together we can make a difference in the quality of news we are getting. If we all use the same subject line it may get their attention.

Subject: Tell the media: STOP THE BULL!

To ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News:

We are outraged and you should be ashamed! Our country faces great challenges, and you aren't doing your job to inform and educate us, the American people. We need a media that encourages reasoned, factual, and civil discussion of the issues we face and the choices we must make about health care, the economy, foreign policy, the environment, retirement programs, and education. What we do about these issues will determine the future for our children, our country, and the world. Instead you waste our time on phony issues and emotionally charged distractions like the lipstick on a pig fiasco and allow the lies, distortions, and half truths of the candidates and their lackeys to go unchallenged. By your silence and your complicity in the face of such manipulative political tactics, you help to fan the flames of the culture wars and encourage the partisanship and ideological extremism that are undermining our democracy and preventing us from dealing effectively with our problems. We need you, the media, to help us make rational (not ill informed, emotional ) choices by focusing on the real issues; telling us where the candidates stand on those issues; and, perhaps most importantly of all, critically investigating and reporting the facts as opposed to the spin. STOP THE BULL!
