Eavesdrop Writer
http://eavesdropwriter.blogspot.com
This is an idea toolbox for creative writers. I use eavesdropping as a resource for character development and this blog is a repository for little gems of conversation I've heard. Don't worry, I'm not using electronic devices or crawling under window sills yet. Just fine-tuning my observation skills in public places to learn about human nature every day. Stop by, maybe you'll find inspiration in something I've overheard!

Water Torture
Today I am recharging my batteries with a day off work at the beach. My bare feet touch the sand and I inhale deeply. It is the perfect kind of warm today, hot enough to claim summer and cool enough to bake all day in the sun. I walk forward until my...
Breaking Up
I've returned to the sounds and smells of the hospital. By now I've learned which bells are harmless and which mean a difficult phone call to another family. The air is simultaneously sterile and stagnant. Preoccupied faces taught with worry or vacan...
I Can't Say Goodnight
My Mom and I walk down the stark hall and stop at the staff elevators. Our tired feet refuse to continue around the corner to the visitor elevators. I know my Mom must be more exhausted than I because she never breaks a rule. We've just left my Dad i...

I absolutely love this idea. I'm forever eaves dropping for character ideas and general insights into human nature. My failing is that I've too short a memory to remember conversations for long. I'm impressed that you've managed not only to remember, but to make a whole blog from it. Tiny scenelets, flashes of character shown in minute details. Great stuff.

The sparrow blinks in awe at so many lovely comments. Ruffles his feathers... and then thinks that the author wouldn't mind another rating of 10 :)

great stumbling on your blog! it's impressive how an everyday thing like 'eavesdropping' and perhaps people watching can turn into a developmental idea such that it can be used for creative writing- and why not? fiction is only as good when based on some truth and reality. gives readers something to relate with.... truly inspiring especially for a frustrated writer like me! well done!

This is one of my all-time favorite blogs. Adds a whole new meaning to "telling it like it is." It is unique, but I expect that Vienne's Eavesdrop Writer will engender many copy-cats over time.
