ecobookers came about through a love of travel – not ‘travel’ to tourist resorts where everything’s like England but with more sun, better beaches and cheap booze, but Travel, where you experience sights, smells and sounds you’d never previously imagined and where you’re thrown head first into a culture completely different to your own. The problem, historically, is that no sooner is an untouched gem ‘discovered’ than the charter airlines, chains of hotels and fast-food stores follow, spoiling the beauty and often making little, or no, contribution to the local economy. Based on this, tourism has gotten itself a bad name. So how do you travel without making yourself part of the problem? Where can you go to enjoy things how they’re meant to be, knowing you’re not ruining it for future generations? The answer lies, in part, in responsible travel, which involves respecting the environment and people of the places you travel to. An element of travelling responsibly is finding eco-friendly accommodation in which to rest your head and that's where ecobookers comes in.
