Ramesh KlinkertGreat initiative. There is a lot to be learned about this concept before anyone tries to become a video game tester. So I say it again; great initiative.

Don't get scammed. Find a job as a video game tester from trusted sources.
A blog about the games we play.
I'm a game designer who champions games of old as much as the latest AAA titles.…
I'm sure this will eventually be deleted for me leaving negative feedback. It can not be helped though. I find these misleading sites and initiatives irritating. They try to rip people off with promising of game testing for a subscription rate.
Let me expose the reality of game testing for you. It is an overpopulated job. It has fierce competition where you eventually have to compete with every other game tester around you in bug counts, bug quality (both written and deep issues) and initiatives you can take to better improve the efficiency of testing.
Stability is also an issue, some companies will pay up to $18 an hour, however, you are contracted and they can and will let you go on a whim.(they only need you for the time period the game is being made and there isn't always another title to be rolled onto) More stable positions are lucky to clear $12 an hour, most hovering around $11.
You can not test from home. Anyone who believes this is silly. Seriously. Lets stop and think about this. IP (Intellectual Property) is the greatest value the company has. They do not want their media to get to a competitor that can match/beat their new design, thus turning their smash hit into a bomb. IP security is one of the highest priorities of all gaming companies and if it is not, that company will not be around long.
If you live in North America, guess what? You're expensive. Video game companies can and do outsource to other counties for game testers. This way they can get someone with a business, computer science etc degree to test their games for less than they would have to pay you.
There is high demand and stress to get game out the door on time to hit their street dates. With this comes responsibility. When something major is not found and possibly costs the company a $30,000 resubmission at Microsoft, Nintendo or Sony, it's your fault. Miss your ship date due to an issue that should have been found early in the development cycle? Your fault again (this can cost the company hundreds of thousands of dollars).
This is not an industry to be taken lightly as sites like this do. Do yourself a favor. If you love games and you really want to be a game tester, don't subscribe to sites like these and drop the dreams of grandeur. Be prepared to be on a game for 6 months to a year, maybe more. Be ready for 3 minute loading times on unoptimized discs. Be ready to be in a rat race for performance. Be ready to be underpaid. Be ready to be without work from time to time.
