Plantar Fasciitis
Its an overuse injury affecting the sole or flexor surface (plantar) of the foot. A diagnosis of plantar fasciitis means you have inflamed the tough, fibrous band of tissue (fascia) connecting your heel bone to the base of your toes.

Youre more likely to get the condition if youre a woman, if youre overweight, or if you have a job that requires a lot of walking or standing on hard surfaces.

If you dont treat plantar fasciitis, it may become a chronic condition. You may not be able to keep up your level of activity and you may also develop symptoms of foot, knee, hip and back problems because of the way plantar fasciitis changes the way you walk.

Treatments

You need to discontinue all activity. Rest is the first treatment for plantar fasciitis. Try to keep weight off your foot until the inflammation goes away. You can also apply ice to the sore area for 20 minutes three or four times a day to relieve your symptoms. About 90 percent of people with plantar fasciitis improve significantly after two months of initial treatment.

Your doctor may inject your heel with steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (corticosteroid). If you still have symptoms, you may need to wear a walking cast for 2-3 weeks or positional splint when you sleep. In a few cases, you might need surgery to release your ligament.

One of the stars of ABC's FAT MARCH Wendy Alane Wright was diagnosed with a severe case of Plantar Faciitis the first week of her march. Wendy was taken to the Emergency room in Massachusetts where the hospital medical staff informed Wendy and the production company Ricochet, that Wendy would need to immediately stop marching and get completely off her feet to avoid any further damage. She was diagnosed with a severe Plantar Faciitis in both feet and instructed to go home and have 30 days bed rest.

The production company refused to give the tv star permission to get the suggested steroid injections and allowed Wendy to continue marching for weeks on end without the correct medical treatment. Ice packs were not provided, prescriptions were not filled, and poor care was given.

I am surprised to see Wendy still marching week after week and no mention of her chronic condition.

From what I understand, Wendy is home resting and must have been accompanied by her husband during this doctor ordered "bed-rest" because the tv star is pregnant with her 1st child!
