  • Letters of Note: One thought hits me about your letter

Posted on Thursday December 3rd, 2009 at 12:03

via www.lettersofnote.com One thing strikes ME about this letter: Salinger's advice is mystic. There is much to be gained in following this advice, putting one foot in front of the other, doing what is before you to do, paying exquisite atten...

via hilobrow.com HiloHero from HilowBrow.com: Madeline L'Engle. I have to agree with their designation though I'll ignore the highbrow insult to belief in his phrase: "An ardent Episcopalian who believed in universal salvation, she NO...

  • \'How Fiction Works,\' by James Wood -- New York Magazine Book Review

Posted on Wednesday December 2nd, 2009 at 12:05 in books, on writing

One of the background influences of this blog is G.K. Chesterton whose wit and knack for paradox never ceases to delight me. In addition, it deals charmingly with those famous Chesterton epigones "The Inklings" and from there to a number of delightfully nerdy things: fantasy...the nature of orcs...what's happening in the new hobbit movie.

Charming.
