Leaves of the Palm: The Life, Times, and Opinions of Edward F. Palm, Ph.D., Major, USMC (Ret.). and Simple Working-Class Lad from New Castle, Delaware

A long time ago, my sophomore English teacher, Father William Campbell, saw something in my writing and predicted that I would someday become a newspaper columnist. He suggested the perfect title for my column--"Leaves of the Palm." Now that I have a little extra time on my hands I've decided to put Father Campbell's prediction to the test. I'm using my blog site not just to reprint opinion pieces I've published elsewhere but to try to get more of my ideas and opinions out there. --EFP

The salmon are running, but I've been short on time, and we've only had a couple clear days in the last two weeks.  I'm not adverse to sitting alongside the creek in the rain, trying to hold an umbrella and a camera.  I've done it before. &...

I was humbled to discover that "Amy," the sister-in-law of the late John LaBossiere, found my blog and left a comment.  She confirms that her brother-in-law came back from Iraq a changed man and that the war indeed played a major role in his tra...

(Part of the Papa 3 landing force, Vietnam, 1967)My wife has reminded me that 34 years ago, at Quantico, we attended the ball for the 200th birthday of the United States Marine Corps.  I've said it before, and I'll say it again:  Don't you ...

  • Antipathy Grounded in Racism

Posted on Monday November 9th, 2009 at 15:36 in racism, indoctrination and obama, jimmie carter

Just today I saw a bumper sticker that lends credence to Jimmy Carter's view of why so many people are down on Obama.       The text was "Obama/Deceiver"; the image was of Obama in white face.       This is one...
