A practicing school library media specialist, I’ve worked in the public library and museum sectors, and advocate public access to cultural, political, and economic information as the cornerstone of a democratic society. Libraries in schools need to support more than the formal curriculum (though they certainly must do that). They need to support positive socialization and independent inquiry as lifelong habits. This compels professional librarians to “remix” our collections and our mindsets to meet the needs of today’s social learner.
