Loose Moorings; Liveaboard Life in Victoria Harbour

http://loosemoorings.org

n the summer of 2007 we kicked out the kids, sold the house, bought the boat - a cs36t - and moved from the dull confines of the fraser valley to Victoria's inner harbour. i like to think of myself as a full-time writer although living aboard seems like a full time occupation in itself. tracy works with the elderly as a social worker in one of the city's many retirement homes. this is our first major life experiment since having our two kids all those years ago.

  • Landlubbers Got it Easy

Posted on Wednesday December 9th, 2009 at 17:55

Woke up this morning in a house. A real house. Let the dog out for a pee in the yard, cooked an omlette for breakfast. And it all took less energy than one filling up my water tanks.  I forgot how much land life is the easy life. You don't even ...

  • Cold, Cold Victoria Weather

Posted on Monday December 7th, 2009 at 12:15

The wind has been howling through the harbour to a degree we've never before experienced. Normally, we get wild winds when a cold front approaches ahead of a deep low, and almost always from the southwest. Mercifully, this tends to be short lived as ...

  • To Boldly Go...Where?

Posted on Saturday December 5th, 2009 at 15:51

Not sure where this post is going; there's a lot on my mind and not sure what to do about it. Normally I keep a lot to myself rather than blogging about it as this isn't a "me" blog as much as it is an "idea" blog. When I talk about personal issues i...

  • Moving Off the Boat

One of the great benefits of being a loser is that the scenery never gets old. While many if not most folks struggle to maintain property and a house, with all it's enormous costs, we get to live lightly, moving as the need requires. We had an ad out...

  • Regularly Scheduled Boat Breakdowns

Posted on Monday November 30th, 2009 at 21:43

Funny how things go; the other day I was just thinking that i was overdue for something to break down; we never go for a long stretch without something starting to smoke or otherwise self-immolate. Sure enough, we got a double whammy the next day: Tr...

  • The Problem With Blogging

Posted on Friday November 27th, 2009 at 18:42

After a bit of research I've discovered that I've committed a blogger's cardinal sin: a lack of focus. I've talked about this before and i've struggled with what to do about it. My original attempt in writing this blog was, as the name suggests, talk...
