Lilly Mouse
Hey Mary, I hope you never grow up and your site stays just as charming as it is now! Lovely. Thanks.
The life of one girl, one town, and one over-active imagination. In comic strip form.
Recent PostsI noticed in Walmart that the bras were very nearly touching the aisles for boys underwear and pajamas. Awkward doesn't begin to describe it....
Well, at least Mary understands that there's a problem. A tad overly emotional about it, but she does have some understanding.I had a lot of ideas for Mom's last line, but I think the 'oy' gets the idea across much more eloquently. There may be some d...
Mary is in trouble. Though perhaps she's suffered enough for her crime?...
There are people who perform wonders under pressure. There are those who approach problems with calm and poise.Mary isn't one of those people....
There are children in the house. There is no noise.Worry.It's pretty amazing how often that progression works out....
This is not going to end well....

Brian GillFirst, I'm biased. Naomi / brigid is my daughter. However, I'm also a recovering English teacher, and have a sort of reputation to maintain, so I'll try to be objective.
brigid has been taking notes, for years, of what's gone on in this family. She's got a good memory, and a good imagination.
There aren't many strips in the blog version of her comic, so I'm taking my cues from the previous chapters she posted on a technically-challenged hosting service.
I won't pretend that "Mary Quite Contrary" depicts life in a Typical Small Town America family. In real life, brigid's parents met while pursuing degrees in Computer Science. Her mother succeeded, her father bombed out in the second year: and now he's the one who has to be surgically removed from the computer and is operating a small online publishing company.
Each comic strip is a stand-alone gag, and a part of a continuing narrative: noting new in the comics.
What sets this one apart is the point of view, and the personality of the "Mary," brigid's alter-ego. Brigid's four surviving siblings and parents have distinct and colorful personalities (if I do say so myself), which the reader will get to know fairly quickly.
"Mary Quite Contrary:" slices of real life, peppered with the imagined adventures of a pre-teen.
Realistic writing (I should know: I was there when the original situations happened).
A distinct, individual style of drawing.
This comic lies somewhere between "Calvin and Hobbs" and "For Better or For Worse." There's a good chance you'll like it.
