microbrother aka microbro is a third generation Washingtonian who observes his world and quite often, feels incapable of affecting change to improve his station in life. He yearns to speak his truth to power, but who will hear him, who will care?
This brother, growing up, could not read until his first year in high school! All of a sudden the light came on. A whole new world was introduced to him. You see, one day his tenth grade teacher asked everyone to write an essay on something that they felt passionate about. microbro wrote and wrote and wrote, when their time was up, the teacher collected the papers.
The next day, the teacher requested microbro to remain after class. Fr. Timasy looked microbro directly in the eyes and asked if he had written the essay. The frighten kid nodded, yes. Fr. Timasy asked microbro if he knew what the word “derive” meant. microbro nodded, again. You see, the boy had used the word “derive” in his essay. The following day, microbro was instructed to no longer report to “C” class, but to report to “B” class.
microbro could not explain were this came from. It was, like, yesterday he couldn’t read and today, the possibilities are endless!
microbro's written commentaries have appeared in the Washington African American, the WPFW 89.3FM program guide, WHUT Channel-32 program guide and the Washington Post Outlook. His radio commentaries have been aired on the Science Christian Monitor and WAMU 88.5FM.
