Why would anyone not want health care reform? Do they enjoy the fact that 45,000 Americans without health insurance die every year because they lack the health care that they deserve? Do they enjoy paying higher insurance bills and taxes, to pay for the care of the uninsured? Do they wish to gloat over the fact that they have the coverage that others lack? Or, are they just selfish?
When will these people learn compassion? And, how will they feel when they lose their job and iunsurance? Would they not wish some kindness from others then? Do they know that 70% of all bankruptcies and forclosures are because of uninsured medical bills? Or, is is that they will never care about those less fortunate?
The "socialism" argument cannot be their real reason for fighting health care reform. Few people are ignorant enough to believe that nonsense. Those who cry, "Socialism," obviously have no idea what socialism means. To prove the power of their anti-socialist convictions, these individuals should avoid Medicare and return their Social Security payments, becuase those systems are more examples of American "socialism." Of course, halth care reform is no more socialist than is Social Security, but it's a lot more compassionate.
I'm amazed and ashamed at the number of Americans who lack empathy for fellow Americans. These people simply reject the needs of poor Americans as irrelevant; the concerns of minorities and the unemployed are someone else's problem. As long as they have a job and insurance, and they can keep the rif raf out of their suburban nighborhood, that's all that matters. These people are petulant, ignorant and egocentric. They are the worst Americans. I am ashamned of them.
