Cleaner and greener
Business First - by David Bertola
The test results are in, and early indications show that Erie County vehicles run cleaner and greener with a product from an Orchard Park company in their gas tanks.
The product, Cataclean, is a cleanser designed to detoxify engines and combustion chambers. Data from an independent laboratory test after a three-month period on seven county vehicles showed reductions in fuel emissions of more than 40 percent, and increased fuel efficiency of 12.8 percent.
“We are encouraged by the results of this round of testing,” said Grant Loomis, spokesman for County Executive Chris Collins.
Baseline numbers for mileage and fuel consumption were tracked for weeks before Cataclean was added. Then, for three months, mileage and gas use were tracked weekly. The tests were conducted by emissions experts and engineers using a sophisticated emissions system, and monitored by fleet managers of multiple state agencies.
Of the Erie County test results, Collins said, “This supports the nearly 70 percent field emissions tests conducted over the past three years, which have shown significant reduction in harmful emissions.”
The product can be used in diesel and gasoline engines, and Gannon recommends a bottle be added once every 90 days.
