Our New Farmhouse in Germany
http://ournewfarm.blogspot.com
We are a young couple in our late-twenties who have recently bought an old timber-frame house near Frankfurt, Germany. The house was built in the 1830s and is in pretty great shape but we'd like to make it more "our style" so we'll be doing some renovations and remodeling projects. We've come a long way already but have a LOT more to come.

The walls are looking goooood
So the neighbor came over last Saturday at 10 (he overslept and was supposed to be here at 8) and finished up the walls of the guest house. Read about him starting last Thursday here with previous photos. It's really looking good and now we just ne...
What the electrician has been up to...literally
Before Stefan's party, we decided we better have the electrician come out and get some of the lights working around here so we could actually see our guests during the birthday party. Plus all the wiring seems to be about 30 years old and is starting...
Just putzing around
Ok, in German "putz" is what you call the plaster or stucco you put on walls. So yeah, I'm just making a bit of word play. Call it your German lesson for the day.We asked one of our neighbors who happens to be a general contractor and painter if he w...
The compost pile is gone!
A bit late on the update but at least I'm getting to it sometime in the same month! On June 2nd, the wonderful workers showed up again to deal with our compost pile dilemma. On a farm, things like this are very common here - but apparently none of the...
Voila! I give you mud room & pantry!
Once again I'm slacking. This past weekend we had a pretty big party here with a bunch of friends and family...it was a lot of work but thankfully also was fun - and will probably be the last of them for a long while. Yeah, we've said that before, ri...

Hi Danni,
So glad you enjoyed the blog!
Our property is about 1000 sq meters (about 10,000 sq ft). The garden in the back is 1000 sq ft on its own and then a big portion of the property is taken up by the buildings around it.
We would love to have some chickens at some stage, but don't really want to have them here. The previous owner had them as well as other types of birds, pigs, horses, goats and rabbits. But that is a WHOLE LOT to clean up after and we already got to clean a lot of it up when we bought the place so we're hoping to find a small piece of land with some fruit trees where we can also have a few farm animals. :)
Hope you come back often ;)

This is a very cool blog. The pictures really draw me in. I am personally interested because 1) being 1/2 German, I've spent a lot of time in Germany 2) I am hoping to move in the next few months to a small farm myself and 3) I am completely impressed with the scope of your project and the huge amount of work you've done yourselves.
One question I have for you, how big is your property? I can't quite get a sense of it looking at your pictures.
And also, will you have other animals than your beautiful dog and the future "decorative" chickens?
