Fujitsu4241 monitor

Let it be known that Fujitsu obviously had a problem with their power supply, but most importantly, be sure to verify the problem before you make a push towards a replacement.

I was lucky enough to pick up one of these babies for $200.00. This monitor has an unbelievable picture. Unfortunately, it retailed for $8999.00 when it was introduced in 2001.

I only had the monitor 1 day before I wanted to know how to get a hold of some BNC connectors. I called a tech out the very next day, having the connectors I needed of course, but was more interested in a wall mount.

There are 2 very important things to check before you read a Blog on a malfunction about a power supply, and chuck it.

At the time, I was on a budget, so we agreed that an EXTENSION cord would be cheaper than running another gang box. So we proceeded. Not only is this not building code, but a Plasma monitor consumes an enormous amount of energy, and sure that most manufactures don't encourage it. Basically, I was getting the same "monitor turns off by itself, followed by a blinking red light."

Turns out you can't dare run an extension cord to supply the power source. I do beleive that I did some damage to my monitor already, but was lucky enough to realize it and relocate a gang box in a days time. I found this out by removing it from the mount in my room, and taking it to the living room on the stand. When I plugged it into a wall socket, it had no problems, but when I hung it on the wall and used the extension cord, it almost always turned off.

The second thing to look out for is mounting your plasma too close to the wall. 2 inches is not going to cut it if its an older plasma, but the Fujitsu pds4241 says about 3 inches. This will also make the monitor automatically turn off with the same blinking red light.

Remember, always go in line and download if you can the owners manual. In the Fujitsu's case, A continuous blinking red light was a power source issue, as two blinking red light signifies overheating.

Good luck, but most importantly, exahust every avenue at all costs. You never know what you may notice if you pay close enough attention.

By the way, I am cleaned up and plasma bound@!! I have not experienced the problem since. What a deal!! BY THE WAY, THIS WAS FUJITSU'S FLAG SHIP AT THE TIME.
