One of the reasons for exercising extra prudence in the purchase of a portable ac is the impact it has on the energy consumption. There are many newer models that are rated high in EER - Enegy Efficiency ratings - and even though these units tend to be a bit costlier, they do save energy in the long run thus helping the consumer and environment.
