Posted on Thursday December 24th, 2009 at 07:30 in metropcs

MetroPCS is really nailing it with the low-end phones lately. They add two more to their collection in the Kyocera Domino and Laylo. The Domino is a candybar handset that features Bluetooth, WAP browser, and a large keypad. It costs $69. The Laylo i...

  • Virgin Mobile Canada thinks it willy be a texty Christmas

Posted on Wednesday December 23rd, 2009 at 07:30 in canadian wireless

One way to get attention is to make bold claims. Virgin Mobile Canada has done just that, and since we just talked about a text messaging issue yesterday, I’ll take the bait. They predict that Canadians will send 200 million text messages on Ch...

  • America is texting more. Are you?

Posted on Tuesday December 22nd, 2009 at 07:30 in text messaging

Text messaging appears to be one of the fastest growing communications media in America. For years we’ve heard stories of teens exchanging thousands of messages per month, so it appeared as though it had come close to peaking. Not even close. I...

  • Net10 discontinues unlimited service

Posted on Monday December 21st, 2009 at 08:08 in net10

Before there was Straight Talk, there was the Net10 unlimited plan. Launched in July of 2008, it seemed like a great plan at the time. It offered unlimited calling, texting, data browsing, and 411 calls for $79.98 per month, which at the time undercu...

  • MetroPCS gets the Samsung Stunt

Posted on Friday December 18th, 2009 at 07:30 in metropcs

Looking for a phone for a former luddite? MetroPCS has one for you. They’ve released the Samsung Stint, and it’s as basic as they come. It has no advanced features whatsoever, unless you consider Bluetooth one. That does come in handy, e...

  • Boost Mobile expands International Connect program

Posted on Thursday December 17th, 2009 at 07:30 in boost mobile

Boost Mobile just made its international calling program that much better. They added an international text messaging option back in April, $10 for unlimited worldwide texts. They’ve greatly expanded that program now, making their Boost Unlimit...

If you are already a T-mo user, wait for its $49 a month unlimited for its most loyal cusotmer.

If you are out of luck for that, google Boost Unlimited, you will get some vendors offer $49 too, although handsets (except MOT i9) are basic (but cheap).

Hi Rosie, I believe that there are a few choices out there, I can say without a doubt that Tracfone or Net 10 is the one for me. Other choices are AT&T or Verizon but neither offers as good a package. Net 10 has the cheapest minutes of all the pre-paid companies but their cell phones are slightly more expensive than Tracfone’s which are subsidised by Tracfone. Net 10 is a subsidiary company of Tracfone and both have very good reception coverage over America including South America if you travel a lot like me. If you’re happy to buy a cheap phone then Net 10 works out as the best value for money but if you want a slightly better phone then Tracfone is the better deal especially if you get DMFL (Double Minutes For Life, that is the Life of you phone.) It’s always best if you do some investigating for your self, check out all the options on their web pages and see their rates. I’m a Tracfone fan, I’ve had their phones for the last 6 years with no problems, I don’t buy flip-phones as they break too easily but the slide phones or the straight phones are great.

I am wondering which pre-paid cell phone provider is the best value for money at the moment. Is there anyone out there with some experience who can give me some advice? I don't want to spend a lot of money on the phone or the minutes as I would like to keep in contact with family and one or two friends but not for work. I'm not image conscience so I don't need to show off with some fancy phone!
