“John Berger once defined music by saying that it began as a howl, became a prayer, then a lament, and still contains elements of all three” (John K. Samson, rock musician, Punk Planet #44).

Record Dept. Music Reviews aspires to provide a quick resource for annotated music reviews. Our reviews are boiled down to the essence of a howl, a prayer, a lament or all three. We provide a small take on an album, a light counterpoint to the in-depth critiques found in traditional sites like Pitchfork or Stereogum.

The Record Dept. primarily covers Indie Rock, Lo-Fi, Shoegazer, Chamber Pop, Twee, Alt. Country, Traditional Country, Americana, Roots Rock, Classic Rock, Psych Folk, Folk and Blues to ensure that fans are always up to date.
