Dear Sir,

Those who reside in coastal cities should beware before purchasing Sony product. Sony does not design their products for withstanding moisture levels prevalent in coastal places in India.

I purchased Bravia Model No. KLV-32S200A in October 2006. It went bust in July 2009. The authorized service center informed me that the inside panels are corroded. When I took up the matter with the customer care, I was informed that due to moisture in the air, the panels were corroded.

I stay 800 Meters from the coast in Visakhapatnam. Considering the distance, the moisture levels are normal. My earlier TVs Thomson, BPL and Konark served me more than 10years each.

This clearly shows that Sony products are not good in coastal places. So people should beware.

Regards,
M. Chandrabose

I a KDL-26T3000 television on 21st July 2008. On the 1st August 2009 the television started to hiss when being played in digital mode. This is literally 10 days after the warranty expired. I have since been told this is due to a fault with the freeview unit and it will cost about £200 to repair. The only way I can watch digital tv now is to play it through the digital recorder.
I will not be buying a Sony television again.

I bought a Sony WEGA TV 3 years ago and there is some coating on the screen to make the picture better (which I was not told when I purchased it). A year and a half ago, they had to come and replace the entire picture tube because it was clearly defective and wearing off, and the picture was discolored and smudged-looking. The repairmen told me to only use green cleaning products on it so the coating would not wear off again. After cleaning it for a year with only WATER, the same thing is happening. After being given the runaround by Sony, all they are willing to do is slightly discount a new tv. This is a tv that I paid $1,000 for 3 years ago and it is a piece of crap. Sony could not care less about their customers and just keep offering lame apologies. NEVER buy from them - they will not stand by their products.

I contacted Sony about a problem with my 4yr. old WEGA hd rear projection TV. I was informed that the problem was with the optical block and was widespread wide spread. They offered to repair it free of charge but the problem could occur again in the future. They offered to sell me a new replacement at reduced cost. I sent the information they required and on 12/10/08 I received an email which stated I would receive tracking information within a week. When that didn't happen, I called and was told the order had not been placed. I was told the set would be on the truck 12/30/08 and I would be contacted with a delivery date. When that didn't happen, I called yet again and was told the TV was actually back-ordered but would definitely be on it's way by 12/31/08. It's now 1/03/09 and still no tracking info. Has anyone else been through this ? Did you ever get your TV ?

Sony recently settled a class action suit with customers that purchased HDTVs that had latent, inherent problems. Now I am finding out that the same problem exists in another model with a similar configuration. Sony refused to accept responsibility for the design defects and denies there is a wide spread problem. In both cases the defects took around three years to show up. I would not be so eager to recommend a Sony product until it had been in the market for a long while. Sure they only warranty their products for the industry standard, one year, but should the life of a supposedly superior, premium priced product only be three years? None of their competitors are have these type of product failures.

Some great post. Feel free to check out some articles I've written about the Sony LCD line. Done some head to head comparisons of the entire 2007 line & overview of the new Sony XBR 8. Almost done with a complete comparison of 2008 line. Wanted to know if you were interested in a link exchange.
