Posted on Monday December 14th, 2009 at 20:14 in reflection, water, landscape, trees, ottawa, evening, dow's lake

This photo was taken at a park near Dow's Lake in Ottawa in the first week of December. If you peer into the far right hand corner of the photo, you can see that the grass was not only visible, but still green! Unfortunately that has changed now......

Posted on Friday October 16th, 2009 at 09:35 in trees, sad, leaves, fall, red bubble rejects

This photo was taken a couple of weekends ago when I visited the Experimental Farm. It's a Red Bubble reject... 2 weeks on Red Bubble and it couldn't generate half the views of my second least-popular photo. It doesn't surprise me... It doesn't loo...

Posted on Thursday October 15th, 2009 at 20:06 in trees, light, leaves, fall, sky

I took this picture while I was photographing the yellow flowers I posted yesterday. I looked up and saw that the sun was illuminating the trees overhead... and the brightly colored leaves contrasted with the dark and ominous sky. It looks like the...

Posted on Sunday October 4th, 2009 at 01:26 in trees, fall, lensbaby

I have lots of time free for photography now that my exams are over (if still not as much time as I would like). Once getting over the initial hurdles of using new photo management software, things are running far more efficiently on my antique lap...

Posted on Tuesday September 29th, 2009 at 22:23 in trees, orange, yellow, leaves, fall, val-des-bois

I have a couple of days off from work, and I planned to go out and photograph the fall trees today. Once the leaves start changing color, it isn't long before they've all fallen, so I thought I should seize the opportunity. The days are getting sho...

Posted on Monday September 28th, 2009 at 15:29 in reflection, water, monochrome, trees

In keeping with the theme of simplicity, this is a photo of a tree reflected in gently rippled water. The color version had a brownish hue. At Graem's suggestion, I converted it to black-and-white. In its current incarnation, this photo reminds me ...

Posted on Saturday September 26th, 2009 at 22:42 in trees, evening, silhouette, stony swamp

Here is another photo taken on my adventures last weekend. We went to the Stony Swamp Conservation Area just outside of Ottawa. My mood at the time was bleak, as I was certain I had failed my exams and would be wasting another year preparing to reta...

Posted on Saturday September 26th, 2009 at 02:05 in reflection, water, landscape, trees, leaves, fall, bridge, val-des-bois

Last weekend, we went on a photo journey to Val-des-Bois, Quebec. Up until last year, my only visit to Quebec had been a layover in the Montreal airport when I was en-route to somewhere else. Last year when I visited Ottawa, I ventured across the b...

Posted on Saturday July 11th, 2009 at 18:38 in building, Canada, trees, ottawa, clouds, sky

I usually try to only post my best photos. This is an exception. I know that this photo is not technically very good, yet it was one of those pictures I felt absolutely compelled to take. It was taken as we were walking home from the river. I lik...

Posted on Wednesday July 8th, 2009 at 21:46 in trees, elm

This is a giant elm tree that was in my backyard in Saskatoon. I've known for a while now that I wanted to photograph the elm... So when did I do it? My last night in Saskatoon, as the light was fading from the sky. It's kind of an allegory for the...

Posted on Saturday May 16th, 2009 at 19:56 in water, trees, evening, slough

This was taken at the same slough as my sunset photo. There was a still pond where you could see the reflection of the trees and the sky....

Posted on Wednesday May 13th, 2009 at 03:58 in trees, clouds, sky, treehouse, camrose

This weekend I visited my in-laws near Camrose, AB. Of course, I took some pictures. I love the effect of a wide angle lens on landscapes, skyscapes and architecture. An ultra wide angle lens is on my wish list, and I'll probably treat myself to o...
