sorry to hear about your dog...

i'd look at his diet

dry skin is often a sign of lack of essential fatty acids

our westie is quite prone to dry skin, so we invented 'sardine sunday'- basically, on a sunday he gets a tin of sardines (mashed up) - he loves them! and his skin is brilliant!

(sardines are a great source of fatty oils)

also we sometimes add a teaspoon of virgin olive oil or evening primrose oil to his biscuits

hope that helps!

I am searching for some help for my Scottie. He has a skin condition where he itches frequently. His skin on his belly is like elephant hide, although the rest of his skin is normal; just occasional spots of itching. I have tried medication (not steroids) including brewer's yeast, and lotions and medicated shampoos but have had no luck in controlling it. It comes and goes. It is not always present but when it is, he scratches incessantly. My vet, while a good one, is not really sure what it is; we tried Vetalog but that only helped temporarily, doesn't work at all now, and the only other thing he can do is put him on steroids which he and I are reluctant to do; especially if there is some other treatment I can find. Any suggestions? thanks
