Men planning their families can find interesting scientific abstracts and other writings about paternal age effects and reading this blog may influence your decisions on the best time of life to embark on this adventure for the health and happiness of your family and future generations.
It is grounded in the paper by the late Leslie B. Raschka, M.D. who tried to warn the world that schizophrenia and other disorders can becaused by fathering babies past the age of 33. He wrote his paper before the large studies were published showing this to be true and he was marginalized. He died in 2003. This site has many more interesting studies and it highlights the fact that the age of a person's father is vitally important, especially to daughters, who at younger paternal age can run into severe health problems. Unfortunately the DNA in genes in sperm making cells begin accumulating mutations rapidly by 33-35 and apoptosis slows down, it seems so that sperm with damaged DNA can fertilize an ovum; sometimes damaged sperm are favored by the ovum.
