  • Editorial: Glenn's gotta go at United

Posted on Wednesday August 26th, 2009 at 07:08 in united airlines

There has been a lot of stuff out there written about United Airlines, and most of it isn't positive. We're all familiar with the United Breaks Guitars video (the second of three is out on YouTube, by the way), and the infamous "Untied" complaint web...

  • Baltia Air Lines, the 20 year old startup

Posted on Wednesday August 19th, 2009 at 13:52 in baltia air lines

A few weeks ago, I stumbled across a press release that said that a New York-based startup, Baltia Air Lines, had signed a letter of intent to purchase a Boeing 747. Who the heck is Baltia? I did a little research (mostly in the form of 10-Q filings ...

  • Southwest lands in Boston

Posted on Tuesday August 18th, 2009 at 08:35 in southwest airlines

I had known that Southwest Airlines was going to start service from Boston for a while, but it wasn't until my good friend Dan at Things in the Sky talked more about it that I started thinking about how I could go and see it happen. Dan kindly sent a...

  • United's wheel of fortune

Posted on Monday August 10th, 2009 at 07:35 in united airlines

I didn't know about this until it was pointed out to me yesterday (thanks to @derekwhit and @melissaiscool on Twitter), but it seems that for the last couple of months, United Airlines has set up a 'spin the wheel' setup at key airports. More after t...

  • JAL loses $1 billion in second quarter

Posted on Friday August 7th, 2009 at 10:56 in ana, singapore airlines, jal

You thought Delta's second quarter loss of $257 million was bad? Or even American's $390 million loss during the same time? Even perennial money-loser Alitalia's financial performance pales in comparison to Japan Airlines' whopping $1 billion loss b...

5 stars Julie Richardson

I fly Spirit almost every weekend between Ft Lauderdale and Washington DC and have been very satisfied. If it were not for the price of their tickets, I could not afford to live in South Florida and work in Virginia.

Spirit is frequently late, sbut tend to make up a lot of time once in the air. But these statistics are available. I probably would not fly them on a day I have an important event I don't want to be late for, but they are great for routine communing or when you don't have a time constraint.

It's like anything else . . . . . you usually get what you pay for. My flights between the two cities have cost me as little as $38 and no more than $212 and YES, that is round trip. They have amazing sales / promotions, but you need to read the fine print and be aware of expiration dates (especially on the BOGO Deals).

I hope they are able to remain financially solvent and continue to add cities for routes.
