The Business Ethics Blog

http://www.businessethics.ca/blog

In case the title isn't clear, this is a blog about business ethics. It is not a discussion forum. I post news & commentary about corporate ethics here. If you believe either
a) that corporations have a god-given right to accumulate as much capital as possible without regard for who gets hurt along the way, or
b) that all corporations, and all people who work for them, are inherently evil, you will probably be irritated by this blog.

  • Can Ethics Be Taught in Business Schools?

Posted on Tuesday November 10th, 2009 at 23:39

It's a common refrain. Don't blame the business schools for all the bad stuff happening on Wall Street. It's not the b-schools' fault, because after all, ethics can't be taught. The first bit there is reasonable enough: the recent financial crisis is...

Today in class I taught Joe Heath's wonderful paper, "Business Ethics and Moral Motivation: A Criminological Perspective" (J. Bus Ethics, 2008. 83:4, 595-614). It's a paper that draws on the criminology literature to debunk several 'folk theories' re...

  • Can Life-Saving Decisions Really Be "Tough Calls"?

Big business means big decisions. Tough decisions. In some industries, those decisions affect whether people live or die. Here's a story that gives insight into the thought process that goes into such a decision. From BNET: How I Made the Toughest Cal...

Lots of people don't trust Big Pharma. And to a significant extent, that's for good reasons. (I've blogged about some of those reasons here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here, just to cite a few examples. See also some of the entries on the...

Business ethics is not a subject I'd normally gravitate too, but you did a wonderful job of making me interested in issues I'd normally pass over. Great stuff.

I don't know who coined this phrase or whether I am actually reciting it correctly, but the saying is that if you take care of your customers, your customers will take care of you, i.e. your bottom line. For sure, without business ethics, there isn't going to be much bottom line in the long run.

There's a vast reservoir on business ethics on Chris' blog, and most articles are well-commented, too, showing a truly engaging blog. Indeed, the Business Ethics Blog is definitely worth reading, bookmarking, and coming back to.
