The Disconnection: Encounters with Strangers

The Disconnection: Encounters with Strangers

http://cityencounters.blogspot.com

Thousands of people live in NYC and almost all of them are crazy. I seem to be a magnet for madness so I decided I needed to share my encounters with strangers--from insane subway episodes to getting yelled at by bums. Now my friends from across the world are telling their tales, as well. Enjoy.

  • O Laundry Where Art Thou?

Posted on Saturday November 14th, 2009 at 14:32 in complaint, ues, all washed up, laundry drop-off service

I haven't done laundry since 2006. We don't have a washer/dryer and my neighborhood has no nearby laundromats, so we drop it off.  Up until last week, I loved the fact that I didn't deal with our dirty drawers until things went a-missin'! I marc...

Besides having a stressful work day that involved having FedEx pick up a shipment from a DHL warehouse, I was running late for my doctor's appointment, i.e., appt. was at 3:40 pm, which was the time I left my office! The office said: "If you don't ge...

Posted on Saturday October 17th, 2009 at 20:14 in ues, donating, thrift stores

It was time to get rid of some clothes I never wear--instead of throwing them away, I decided to donate them to a thrift store in my neighborhood. Should be easy to do, right? Wrong.I didn't even make it through the doors of thrift store #1 because t...

  • NJ Transit - No Where Better To Go?

Posted on Monday October 12th, 2009 at 21:12 in new jersey, 6 train, talkative stranger, newark nj

It's always a culture shock when I leave the city after two days and then return. I was in "the country" (as my sister-in-law loves to call it) of central Jersey this weekend--it was nice to get away, but it was quite a task to get there.Although we ...

By C.WilsonNo one said the streets of NYC are quiet, but when voices can be heard above honking cars, I know something is up.There were two men shouting back and forth about a parking space in front of my apartment. One man (apparently the first to g...

  • Praise Jesus--and have a drink

Posted on Tuesday September 22nd, 2009 at 22:35 in christian, fashion week, time warner center, talkative stranger

I'm not one of those NY'ers who drool over Fashion Week events, although I am not one to turn down a chance for free food/drink either! Speaking of free, I had the chance to help out at a FW event in Time Warner Center a week ago. It wasn't the most ...

FANTASTIC blog idea. Really needs to be done. I moved from NYC about a year ago and always felt like just the regular joes were not so regular. Granted, I was dealing with a rare quantity of madness (psychiatry resident in the Village) and always felt like I never left the ward, even when walking outside! haha. keep the stories coming. Really entertaining...

Hi Nubia :)

As a forma Noo Yawka I really identify with your blog and I LOVED the way you described your subway adventure with the great Rubik's Cube Champ, Mihn Thai. Count me as a neighbor who will be visiting again.
