I'm not a dog lover. I come from a family of dog lovers, and we've always had dogs, but I'm not one of those people who adores animals at large. For me, it's about one dog. The dog who'd been with my for most of my adult life departed in December, after more than 17 years, and he may have been my last. But even though I'm not a dog lover, stories keep arising that make me say, "Dogs are incredible". Or sometimes, "Dogs are dumb". I firmly believe both. I expect to demonstrate both here.

Last Saturday Tinkerbell, a 6-pound chihuahua, went missing in a rather unusual way...she blew away. It took two days and the help of a "dog psychic", but her worried owners reunited with her on Monday nearly a mile from the original site.Blown-Away...
So, listen: I'm getting a dog.I know, I know...when the best dog in the world died two and a half years ago, I was sure that I'd never want another dog. It took a long time, but about six months ago I started to think about puppies. Only in the mo...
Of all of my blogs, this is the one I never expected to generate controversy. My Catholic blog, obviously, doesn't sit well with some people. What's Wrong Around Us? is full of socio-political viewpoints that might draw disagreement. And my webzin...
That's a phrase that comes up a lot in my family. Someone tells a story about a dog--which happens fairly often since I'm surrounded by dog lovers--and someone else says "Aren't dogs great?" They do just keep doing things that impress us and touch u...
It's not often that this blog intersects with my social commentary blog or my webzine, Rational Outragee, but here's a story that fits all three: In short, a Texas police officer pulled over a couple for speeding. They WERE driving much too fast an...

NatashaAliveI love dogs a lot, and while I was browsing different sites, I came across one with a owner/dog-look-alike contest. I thought it was really cute and that I'd share it with you.

Janes GateLike humans, dogs too get diabetes. When a dog has diabetes, the best way to keep it in control is by giving it diabetic dog food, which is low in sugar and carbohydrates. Apart from controlling the amount of sugar in a diabetic dogâ??s food, the amount of food and the frequency in which they are fed also needs to be monitored. The general recommendation is that your diabetic dog should be fed smaller meals twice or thrice a day instead of a single large meal. This is because blood sugar levels can be stabilized by smaller meals, whereas a single large meal results in a high insulin spike, and then for it to drop down in 12 hours. When blood sugar plummets too low, it results in hypoglycemia, which is a series condition.

Kristin, SpotapupHello, to all of the people dedicated to making the lives of dogs better,
My name is Kristin Smith. I am a television news reporter, animal shelter volunteer, vet tech, and a dog rescuer. In my travels as a reporter, I have seen so many abandoned, neglected, and abused animals and have rescued them whenever possible. I have gone on to find them forever homes.
I have now created a tool everyone can use in finding the right pet for the right owner. At the same time, it will hopefully lessen the burden on shelters and rescues.
This tool is called http://www.spotapup.com, and the mission is simple: by matching the right dog with the right person, we hope to keep dogs from becoming homeless, and winding up in shelters.
This website is simply a way of helping to determine which pet is the most appropriate match for your particular family and environment. It also tells you where the closest shelter with that breed of dog can be found.
Check it out!

Dog TrainingGerman Shepherd lies in mud...Well as long as the dog wasn't complaining then it was perfectly OK. All too often humans place their own emotions and lifestyles onto our canine friends. It is perfectly natural for a dog especially one of the working breeds to be outside in the rail. My own Border Collie chooses to lie in the middle of the field when it is raining. He has numerous other options as in the barn, or the farmhouse but prefers to be outside. German Shepherds have double water resistant coats and care nothing of the mud or the weather conditions.
Regards, marion.
