Before Bill Clinton was elected he promised American Public Health Association members he would support single-payer. He then turned around and tried to implement a mystery plan written for the insurance industry.
Before Barack Obama contemplated running for president he said single-payer is the best system. He didn't go so far as to deny that during his campaign, but it was clear that he was waffling. It is now clear that Obama is as controlled by the interests of the insurance industry as Clinton was. The public will have to put massive pressure on Obama's administration to pry it loose from the grip of the insurance industry.
