As a teenager I decided to make a mental note of all the things I hoped to do before I die. At the time R.E.M. was my all-time favorite band, and so naturally seeing R.E.M. in concert was on the top ten list. Also on the short list included seeing the Eiffel Tower, and going to a They Might Be Giants concert.

I don’t remember the rest of the list any more (since I never bothered to write it down) but since then I have managed to go to Paris twice and make it to a They Might Be Giants live show. But the R.E.M. concert is still eluding me. Maybe someday I’ll actually make it to a concert. But until then I satisfy my R.E.M. fixation with music videos.

For your listening enjoyment, here is the music video for The One I Love from the 1987 album Document.

We’ve had our new record player for a little over a month now, and I am smitten. Yes, the record player does technically belong to RollerReggie (it was his birthday present after all) but what can I say - records are fun.

I’m now on the hunt to find new seventies (and eighties) gems to add to our collection. So far I have hunted for records at Georgetown Records, Value Village, and the Goodwill.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Sundown by Gordon Lightfoot (1974)

Rainbow by Neil Diamond (1973)

Come on Over by Olivia Newton-John (1976)

It has just been too long since we have taken a vacation. And that is why we have decided to hit the road.

Right now we are somewhere in the American Southwest, rolling around from state to state in my parents’ mini-van. We are seeing the sights, sleeping in tents, making s’mores, listening to various books on CD while we travel, and hopefully getting along famously.

I have scheduled some posts (such as this one) to magically appear while I am gone so hopefully you won’t miss me too much But I probably won’t be responding to comments and for those of you in the Entrecard community I won’t be dropping cards or approving advertisements until I return.

As my favorite Terminator once said… I’ll be back!

And no this is not the vehicle we will be taking on our trip.

Wonder Woman is pretty awesome. As is David Bowie, Flash Gordon, David Hasselhoff, and Neil Diamond.

But none of these fine folks are as awesome as the awesomest one of all. One who simply exudes awesomitude. One who puts others to shame with his sheer awesomeness.

One otherwise known as Darth Vader. And I know this is true because it is proclaimed on an Empire Strikes Back Trading Card:

Back of Card

Anyone know the answer to the trivia question on the back of the card? “The sandpeople travel across the sandy wastes of Tatooine on the backs of huge, furry creatures. These beasts are known as…?”
