Last September Julie Schultz joined the ranks of many other families when the Real Estate market took a downturn. Her husband lost his job; she was searching unsuccessfully for employment while enduring the devastation of the daily struggle to raise her family while coping with mounting debt.

Although Mom and daughters, Natalie, Danielle and Jennifer had formed a small company in late 2006, it couldn’t pay the bills. The four of them put their heads together to form an alternative fashion design company named Cherry Frequency and it had limited success with online sales and in one small local retail store. “While attempting to stay focused on the goal of keeping happy and making a home for my children, I knew we had to continue to pursue our dream,” says Julie.

“We had many friends in the same situation, creating and designing in their home studios without a voice. We admired their work as much as our own, so we put our heads together to remedy our dilemma as well as our friends,” stated Schultz “But how to find the money to open a retail store was our big problem. We contacted everyone we knew; we sold almost everything but my wedding ring and even borrowed money from my 82-year old dad to open Cherry Frequency in Fiesta Mall in Mesa. It was the biggest risk you could take in this kind of economy, but we found the courage to have faith that if you offer the public something of value that is unique and do it at an affordable price, people will come.”

Cherry Frequency fashions along with 20 other local artists and fashion designers are now available in an industrial pop meets art gallery setting in a retail mall. “We’re delighted” says Schultz “and our friends and families have been so supportive. I think it is a great lesson to teach my daughters that if you have the will to follow your dream and put in all the work needed into achieving your goal, you can find a way overcome the toughest odds”

Julie also added, “There are so many incredible artists and designers in Arizona that work in total anonymity, and we hope to change that for a lot of people. Cherry Frequency is dedicated to showcasing this local talent for all to see. Cherry Frequency is a leap of faith that proves even in this economy, if you have the will you can find a way.”
