Don't quote me but I believe that Barack Obama is going to win the Presidential election by a large margin - at least 7%, possibly 10% or more. Now that isn't what I would be telling my supporters. You have to treat every election as if you are two po...

Hi Alan,

I couldn't agree more with your most recent post on Republicans ... you're spot on.

I just had the same topic in my last post, which you might enjoy, http://www.firerobin.com

Alan,

Thank you for your measured well-reasoned response. Some of your concerns are also mine. But after reading his book, watching how he responds thoughtfully to questions, and listening to be people like Dennis Ross who have worked closely with him, I believe he is just the type of LEADER that this country needs at this point in its history. Right now leadership may be important then policy

Congratulations you seem to be the first person I have found who is capable of blogging intelligently about Barack Obama. I don't agree with much of what you're saying, but I respect the thought that went into it. Most people can't say one intelligent thing about Obama. If you ask: Why should I vote for Obama? You get an indignant anti-Bush rant. That tells me why I shouldn't vote to George W. but then he's not running anyway.

First, I'm not comfortable giving credit to Barack for "his" "tax plan", or "health plan", or "plans for national security." I haven't seen anything to suggest that he may have even contributed anything to these proposals. I believe they are the work of some other democrats who we might never know. If during his career he had authored one piece of legislation, demonstrating a unique thought, I would gladly concede the possibility.

Second, I think the fact that he has missed a large percentage of floor votes is cause for concern. Why would someone go to Washington to make a difference and no-show on floor votes? It makes me think he is there for the check and not because of his passion for the people.

Third, in light of the first two points you know if he was not good looking, or a white guy, he would never have been a serious contender. However, his easy rapport with the camera, and the fact that he can hit a three pointer have seduced the American people.

Fourth, I am suspicious of anyone who has the kind of acquaintances Obama has. I don't believe he intends harm to the U.S., but there is a small degree of uncertainty in me. If I had walked into a church run by white supremacists, I would have walked back out. I would not have joined the church, and I would not have attended there for years. I would not be where they preached hate for my country. Where they believe that AIDS is a government plot to kill minorities. Don't make me go on!

There are many more reasons why I think Barack Obama is not the right choice. but I don't want to rant on indefinitely, and to be perfectly fair, I don't think Mcain is the best choice either. But I believe as Americans we need to start looking beyond the rhetoric and the camera makeup and consider what the candidates have actually done.
