How To Prevent Pregnancy?

How to prevent pregnancy is a question that is uppermost in the minds of many young people who are in a relationship or who have had casual sex. More than 80 % of women who do not use contraceptives become pregnant within a year.

One sure-fire way to prevent pregnancy is total abstinence. However this is impractical and the only alternative is to seek the options that are available to the woman and man.

This is how you can prevent pregnancy. There is the diaphragm which is a flexible rim that covers the cervix and has to be used with a spermicide. Then there are oral contraceptives that prevent ovulation and they must be taken every day as directed. Depo-Provera is a hormonal contraceptive that is injected into the muscle and the injection has to be repeated every three months. Norplant and other implants which are small rubber rods are implanted under the skin and they release the contraceptive steroid, Levonorgestrel which offers protection. IUDs have been around for years. This is a T-shaped device that is inserted into the uterus by a health care professional and there are emergency contraception methods like 1 Norlevo that has to be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. There is also the morning after pill as well as the Morning after IUD that has to be taken or inserted within five days of unprotected sex.
