Writing a novel is something that it seems everyone has an interest in these days. People imagine themselves as J.K. Rowling or Stephen King, and think that all they have to do is get that book down on paper and they will never have to work again. They think it will take a couple of months tapping away at a computer for an hour or so every weeknight with a glass of wine and, Hey Presto! they have the next big blockbuster novel.

This sort of thing is fun to dream about. But is it anything like the reality? Of course not! Writing a book that gets published at all is a feat in itself, let alone writing one that sells millions of copies. The process of learning the skills that make someone a good writer is a lengthy one and matching those skills with a gripping story and putting the whole lot down on paper is a stage that most people will never reach.

So, what does it take to get a novel written? Our resident aspiring author, Jenna, is going to be regularly chronicling her experiences in just that. If you have ever wondered how hard or how easy it is to jump into that small percentage of published authors, then follow Jenna on her journey to not only finish her novel in the next 12 months, but to get that novel on the shelves not too long after!

Happily, I am still going for broke with my new WIP.  I managed 3259 words on Monday (all hail public holidays!) and seem to be easily writing 1000 words on work days (boss, if you're reading this, I...er... did it all in my lunch break!). It se...

I have mentioned my writing obsession of late.  Now, I stop short of writing while I'm walking (although I can read or text message easily when walking - I'm a good multi tasker!) however, I tend to be thinking about writing when I'm walking.&nb...
