Hi Everyone!

Let's share each other's techniques in generating more traffic to our blogs. Let's make a list of 1000 traffic tips.

Here's my suggestion.

1. Join forums, and whenever you find an opportunity to link to your blog, do it!

Now, let's here it from the rest of your guys! Cheers and thanks a lot.

Ha ha that's a good one....

You know, while I agree offering a link in your signature in a forum is useful and can lead to traffic, it's really important to keep in mind that you're a member of that forum first and a blogger second.

Folks are going to get pretty tired of seeing someone always posting with the magic answer to it being "Your Blog."

And instead of building relationships and trust-- and in turn creating a loyal group of forum members who know you and read your blog-- you're not going to be helping yourself in the long run.

You might even get yourself punted from that forum, then closing that option to you altogether.

      Post wisely, folks. :-)

Erm, yes, I just had a stumbler send me a message with his blog or post and asked me to DIGG It, Stumble It and put it on Myspace.. I am like WTF!??! He didn't even introduce himself. Now that's a way to turn someone off.. I feel USED.... lol
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
Wow, that's pretty cheeky, isn't it?!
    4. dharmagypsy7
      Yes, yes it was..

This newsletter has been helpful for getting people to some of my blogs...
"Get 35 delicious, healthy Smoothie Recipes in a year! Go here to sign up FREE: ningxia-red.ca/smoothie-moves.html" For anyone who is interested in newsletters, I have found this autoresponder (referred to me by someone else) to be really handy-dandy and granny-friendly: tinyurl.com/2mbjum

Yes-- I too think you're on to something with 1000 SIMPLE ways to generate more traffic to your blog! Yay! Let me know when you have the 1000 and I'll do a blog on your blog...

Another one along the lines of shamelessly answering questions in forums by giving your own blog address: when you take something to a potluck and someone wants the recipe, you give them the address of your blog site and then quickly go home and add the recipe to the site.... this works particularly well if you make an excellent Fresh Mango Salsa such as the one you will find at: tinyurl.com/ywefqz

No it destroys the original intent of the thread. Look at the original post, he numbered an item and gave his suggestion. Instead of keeping the discussion flowing now it is a bunch of links to everyone's own views on how to get traffic, killing the discussion.

Nobody is going to come in here and read 10 different blogs on what individuals think is their best traffic tips. I mean if I wanted that I would go to people that are known for it, like problogger or copyblogger. Here was a chance to have a discussion and people piss it away with their shameless self promotion.
    2. derrich
Fortunately, my link has the keywords "social marketing" in it. So, you guys have my "simple way to increase traffic" just by reading the link. No need to click. I love you guys. You too, PB!

(I think I drank too much coffee this morning)

Add a link in your email signature to your blog. Its a free and easy way to get a little more traffic.

yeah, I've noticed that works pretty good! btw, my signature is: Get Your Locker at coin-locker.com
  10. Witchywife
So here's what I'm taking away from this so far... we're a long way from a 1000...

    1. Join forums, and whenever you find an opportunity to link to your blog, do it!

    2. Participate in stumbleupon, grow your community or participate in stumbleupon exchange system.

    3. Lots of social bookmarking and "directory submissions"

    4. Write appealing material.

    5. Participate in forums and add links to your blog.

    6. Use newsletters.

    7. Work of mouth (e.g. make food and give blog address when people ask for recipe).

    8. Add a link to your blog in your e-mail signature.

    And mine....

    9. Leave lots of useful and relevant comments on other blogs (particularly blogs in your niche).
    1. healthiacynthia
And you are so graceful!!! Thank you for doing the summary after the knuckle-rapping I just got for shameless self-promotion (and I must say, two contributions to the list..hehehe).
  11. g1234ray
Very good idea, and as you said link to your blogs but try websites as well,
    www.howtofinditnow.com

    rightdiy.blogspot.com
    therightbook.blogspot.com
    newzealandorbust.blogspot.com
    therightpetforyou.blogspot.com

and add articles to your blogs from article websites and add articles on the article site with links to your blog.
    Graham
  12. robwatts
I think that whole 1000 number is a tad ambitious

    I'll play though...

Put a bumper sticker on your car. Hijack street furniture with lil stickers and stuff, but don't get caught
  13. karenlim
You can also post self made videos talking about your blog or topics discussed on your blogs to video hosting sites such as YouTube.
  14. dharmagypsy7
Join communities that pertain to your blog and join in on the discussions.

Learn to Copywrite and design to make your blog stand out

    Wordpress.. wurd!

Respond to your commenters (I have left several comments on different blogs with NO response from the blog author. Makes me feel invaluable and probably will not comment again since I am talking to myself)

Check out your competition and see what they are doing right.. don't copy it off of them but incorporate that idea into your blog.. but I repeat.. DO NOT COPY!

Check out your competition and leave comments on their blog and leave your link.. I have made some great connections this way. Leave your link on the comment form.. not the comment itself.
    1. healthiacynthia
I really appreciate the one about responding to commenters... and respond to people who blog about your blog...
    2. dharmagypsy7
Yes, I do not understand how these blogs that do not respond to their readers remain popular... and I agree with you too.. at least say thanks..
    3. karenlim
Hey Susie, this I agree wholeheartedly and sometime also guilty of. Thanks for reminding and I should pick up my slack

    10. Submit your site to search engines like Google, MSN and AOL.

    11. Create a site map/index of your links that the search engines can index , and know just what content you have available

    12. Patience. :-)
    1. healthiacynthia
Question: do you need to continually re-submit, or once you've submitted you are going to be crawled over for life?
  18. m38967
13.) promote locally at nearby colleges

14.) promote offline (with flyers, biz cards, etc.)

    ***two highly underrated methods
    1. healthiacynthia
(15)kijiji.com, an ebay community (local for everyone) has a list-yer-blog form.... I think I have gotten quite a few hits off that.
  19. healthiacynthia
(16)Speaking of "communities"-- if you belong to a Church or other social/religious entity where you are known and nurtured, you can find a number of webplaces to list your information (and it is not considered "shameless self-promotion"-- usually looked at as "hey, someone else here is blogging....wow!)
  20. Phattitudes
    My secret?

I've had a rubber inkstamp made with my website, Phattitudes.com, on it.

I've taken to stamping every single bill I get (ala wheresgeorge.com).

Also, mucho social networking, word of mouth, and forums.

(I also agree with whoever said to respond to comments on your blogs, this definitely matters)

That's a great idea! My boyfriend said I should print out T shirts and give them out to people in Union Square in New York City. He said he would dress up like a Chicken to get publicity and get on the evening news. I am like, honey, you have to do more than that to get on the evening news in Union Square. Do you think that would work?

    Great sharing here.

    Cheers!

Comment of blogs which you come across....even simple comments like "Nice blog" and "Nice work" would mean a lot!
  24. ccarey76
More than just nice work, if you can't bring something useful to the post leave it alone. I do like what dharmagypsy7 (hard to type you know) said about commenting on what your commenters comment on. That makes sense and brings up a level of personal attention that readers will appreciate I believe. Nice tip.

One tip I will add on top of being in forums and PARTICIPATING is to always make sure you have a compelling signature. Its not enough to roam around with a cool looking avatar, that does not increase your traffic.

Or maybe just some geek trick that makes your computer happy in any regard it looks irresistible. You want to click on my signature its very compelling. GOT THE POINT?

I don't think I've read this one, but if I'm repeating someone else's tip, I apologise in advance.

Write articles for free article directories and always have your blog address in your resource box

Once you know what to do all you need to do is create content and once all you do is create content, your content will be better and because you already know what to do, you'll be a millionaire.

    Oooo Cryptic.

What I mean is make great content but know how to promote it, it really isn't that hard to get hundreds of visits to a new crappy post (trust me, I know), imagine what would happen if that post was actually great "original" content.
  32. bloggingmix
    Randles, thanks for the info.
  33. sixuntilme
I would think that writing good posts is the key to retaining visitors, but being featured in blogrolls is an excellent way to gain traffic.

My mother reads my blog. I think she passes the URL on to everyone she knows. Maybe mothers are the key to all things bloggy?
    1. bloggingmix
I guess I'll try asking help from my mom and dad. Cute idea sixuntilme. Cheers.

Hmmm how will I increase traffic to my blog.

Well i'm fairly new to all of this blogging stuff and have just started blogging on my site www.forestreview.blogspot.com and don't really have any real ideas of what I should do as yet! Ha Ha, damn it, it's impossible to answer things and stuff your blog address in there!

Well I agree with the good content bit, something i'm struggling with right at this very second so my alternative is to surf other blogs for a while and comment where I feel genuinely interested in the other persons posts.
    1. bloggingmix

You can wrap your car with an ad for your blog. It's not that simple but I've been seeing it all over lately. It must be working for some peple.

You can also write testimonials for products that you've used and ask for a link back if they place it on their site.

Having a contest or giving away free things would probably work too.

You could put your blog in magazine-form in Second Life and sell it for L$1. It worked for porn magazines. They sold thousands of them.
  37. bloggingmix
    Interesting suggestion cyrstalcash. Thanks.

Has anyone mentioned www.Facebook.com ? You can advertise on there for as little as .01 per click. You can also start your own group based upon your niche. I've place an ad for my blog there and have gotten several hundered hits for pennies.
