Recent research studies have shown that Vitamin D, that people can get with as little as 20 minutes of sunshine, can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and many other diseases.

I think that nowadays, it is increasingly difficult to get enough sunshine because of the way the work environment has involved to be more indoors than outdoors over the last hundred years. I walk at least an hour each day to get my sunshine. I prefer this to get it artificially as an additive.

Are you getting enough sunshine?

Me, too. 20 minutes of sunshine a day & I'd end up with skin cancer, for sure.

I mostly definitely am not getting enough sunshine. The reason why is partially because the sun isn't out much here in Belgium, and partially because it's so boring where I live that I have no reason to go out in the first place.

Sometimes the winter in Chicago can also be pretty dark. But, even if there is cloud cover, I go out. As long as I get some sun. The body can actually naturally store quite a bit of Vitamin D, so it is not necessary to get it every day. But I think people should think about going out more often, and not staying in the office or the home. It is a very unnatural way to live, and the human body actually evolved around the concept of getting sun for nourishment.

Hope you have a sunny day today!

but remember, the sunshine should be the morning sunshine, else you may get sunburns.......

Oh, I'm talking about tropical countries...

I agree. I try to stay out of the high noon sun - usually about 11 - 2. More of a problem during the summer than fall, winter. I just don't feel good in the really hot sun.

      Thanks for the comment.

What about getting it in food? I know it is in the Cocoa Puffs GM ceral bars. They have 25% in each bar. They are very tasty.

They say that the Vitamin D supplements are the same, but I can't quite buy into it. For me, the body was designed to get Sunshine. That is how it has evolved. It is true, that the body can manufacture Vitamin D when it gets Sunshine, but I think Sunshine provides a whole lot more. So, I stick with the basics.

      Good question. Thanks.

If you can't get enuf sunshine, Vitamin D as a supplement is also helpful.

Hard to get enough sunshine in some winter climates, so I'm hoping the supplements are good too.

and when people don't get enough sunlight in the winter some people can suffer from SAD (seasonal affective disorder)

Luckily, (or as the body evolved), the human body has plenty of capacity to store Vitamin D that was created from sunshine. So, it can get through many long months of darkness - though the Mind may get a bit out of sorts. Hope you get plenty of sunshine this weekend!

Had loads of sunshine already Hung out 3 loads of laundry, mowed the front lawn, back lawn can wait till tomorrow. Do it first then hang more laundry.

Then I am gone fishing rain or shine, I don't care. Been teaching my grandkids to fish and my 3 year old grandson caught a 5 iber rainbow trout with dad's help, of course.

Now I have this urge to catch one my self.

Can't seem to get the article. Did they test those getting sunshine against those getting the supplement and no sunshine, or did they test those getting just sunshine or not. Do I have to get my 20 minutes every day or can I be a mole for a couple of weeks as long as I get a long weekend in the Canary Islands afterwards. Seems a difficult thing to check for if you ask me.

Dang! I was suckered into thinking that richrf was back by the resurrection of his old thread and the necroposting to it. How disappointing.

      Did I do something wrong?

How hard is it to go outside every single day for half an hour?
  14. rileycentral
Yeah, the heat, the sunlight, all very good for us creative thinkers at the keyboard. I cleaned my pool and pulled myself out of a huge rut earlier today.

Yea that's nice for most people, but it doesn't work too well when you have a sun allergy like I do.
