Do you buy anything used? Vehicles, clothes, furniture?
Do you prefer second hand or brand new? Why or why not?

I LOVE second hand stuff! Although somethings are certainly worth buying new (underwear, toothbrushes, come to mind
)
I refuse to buy a new car, period. I love to refinish, refurbish, recycle, reuse and reduce trash whenever possible though. -
My whole one blog is devoted to the fun, the bizarre and the entirely unusual stuff I've been able to get from thrift stores and other second hand shops.
It's remarkable what you can uncover... stuff with character, a bit of history and plus, you get the thrill of the hunt.
Can't be beat.-
Theresa- thanks! I know it's not everyone's taste, but I'm happy with my second-hand adventures.
Janelle- I wish I could get moving early enough to make garage sales worth my while. But in my area the true garage salers get up so early-- well before the sales actually start-- everything is gone by about 7am.
I'd rather get some nice Saturday rest, and go thrifting/flea marketing/antiquing an hour or three later.

The last three autos we purchased were from Carmax and we got such good deals. I also will purchase previously watched DVD's and usually find four for $20.00 at Blockbuster. ALways they have been in good condition.

Absolutely on the toothbrushes and underclothing!
When I was a tiny girl, my cousin would pass down clothing, (she was an only child) then both of my sister's would wear them and then I would inherit them. I barely got new clothes with the exception of special occasions and a few at Christmas. Later on in life I turned into someone who would purchase new clothes, shoes, coats, anything. Then I decided I really enjoy jeans, T-shirts, and cosy clothes the best. Comfort won out.

It depends on what it is and what condition it is in.... I've had used cars most of my life...as the second, child, I'm used to hand-me-downs.

I really love to buy used music CD's. It saves me paying the full price of a new CD (which I think is outrageous) and I find some pretty cool and obscure stuff that way.
Since most of the stuff I buy is long out of print, it's not like I'm ripping off the artists (I hope). I mean, if it's a used copy out of print, they wouldn't get a royalty on it anyway, right?
Now, if I can just get some more customers for my business coming my way, I'll be able to afford another used-CD buying party;-) -
I have never bought second hand cloths and I don't know why. . .my cousin goes there all the time and sometimes she will come back with seven jeans and really cute purses. I wouldn't mind shopping there but i don't know about second hand shoes or underwear. . . that is something that is going to have to be new.

I too love second hand, recycled, reused, repurposed and upcycled things. My blog focuses on green crafting which promotes this theme. It's so much fun and frugal too!

I love 2nd hand stuff! When I moved from Canada to New Orleans, I gave away quite a few beloved breakables as I knew they wouldn't survive the move. After moving here, I hit some 2nd hand stores, where I was delighted to find virtually all of the beloved breakables I'd given away. So it's true what they say--if you love something, set it free...
I like shopping 2nd hand not only because you can find cool stuff at great prices, but also because "reuse" is one of the three Rs of the environmental pyramid. -
I'm into antiques, which are the ultimate in second-hand goods!
We attend house sales, I use Freecycle (although I'm more often a contributor than receiver), I look on Gumtree and Craigslist for things before I go to the shops.
Personal items, like clothing, shoes, etc...and mattresses and bedding...those have to be new.
My car was found through Autotrader (a low-mileage Mercedes ML at signicantly below dealer cost with half the warranty still good), and my husband's sports car was the demo model (price slashed and only 5000km on the clock).
We have franchised second hand stores here...Cash Crusaders and Cash Converters...and some very good bargains can be had there, too.
My philosophy is that if I can save money on things like bookcases, wine cupboards, designer bags, and even cars, then I have saved the money to buy the little luxuries I want. Right now I'm coveting an Elna 7300... -
I enjoy looking for people's old vinyl records on ebay, and there is something about used books that appeals to me so much more than new books.
