- There's no way on Earth I would submit my blogs to an auto submit to directory service. Several years ago and even in some quarters today bloggers advised one another to submit their blogs to sites that in turn submitted them to hundreds of directories on their behalf.
I believe in being selective when it comes to choosing which blog directories to submit my blogs to. Granted linking to them does provide a backlink but it also requires an outbound link from my blog to the directory as well. So it's important to assess what the Directory backlink is worth to my blog, and whether or not it's sending me targeted readers.
The blogosphere is full of new directories that lack the authority required to achieve a PageRank, and in the final analysis, Google may decide they amount to nothing more than linkfarms. If that's the case and I have linked to them then my blogs will be penalized.
To Link or not to Link?

I have recently withdrawn my blogs from some Directories and social networks that did not provide a flow of targeted readers to my blogs. I will continue to assess the performance of those my blogs are registered with, and if they fail to provide a flow of targeted traffic to my blogs then I will withdraw from them as well.
When it comes to making linking decisions I prefer to use tried and true methods that include learning how to become a more skillful blogger and doing a better basic SEO job when it comes to structuring a search engine and reader friendly blog.
