A federal judge has ruled that federal funds should pay for the defence of the Spokane Police Officer who tased Otto Zehm to death and then lied about the incident to investigators, despite the fact that Karl F. Thompson Jr. makes $73,000 a year now that he is consigned to a desk job following Zehm's death.

as if civilians would be granted the same privelege

At least Mr. Durkin was his mind set straight:

"Assistant U.S. Attorney Tim Durkin objected to federal payments to Carl Oreskovich to serve as Thompson’s attorney, noting that Thompson makes about $80,000 a year, including overtime."

There needs to be a movement to replace police with citizen patrols. It would be more responsive, and then these guys would have to find a way to survive in the marketplace

Here's the layer being paid for with your (if you pay federal taxes) tax dollars:

NOT a public defender--A PRIVATE ATTORNEY!

How many molotov cocktails does it take to make a "lake of fire"?

The day following the federal judges tacit approval of such behavior, Spokane Police officers appointed themselves Jury and Executioner!

I do not TRUST the Law... Nor Law Enforcement ANY Longer...

This is part of the reason I'm involved in a lawsuit.

Just goes to show you, the police protect their own...not the public!
    1. Agit8r
now we know what "To Serve and Protect" means
    2. wagerwitch
      AMEN to that...

But let me tell you something:

They WILL turn on their own.

      TRUST ME.

And they lie - and they fabricate evidence.
    3. Agit8r
they get paid on commission or something?
  11. Agit8r
On the upside, Spokane is a great place to commit "suicide by cop"
  12. csiunatc
Has there been a ruling in this case, has the officer been found guilty of anything?

Or are you advocating that the person should be punished without legal due process?
    1. Agit8r
A civillian (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_Zehm) who was not in the commission of a crime of any sort (AND UNARMED) was beaten and tasered to death. Your tax dollars are paying for the defense of his assailants. Not a public defender, a private attorney! Even though the officer banks $73K/yr

Not enough to be outraged about?

one of these sociopathic fascists is still walking around free!

      outraged.. sure,

Not enough to punish someone without their case being heard though.
    3. Agit8r
who said that? This is about corruption. If you had shot someone, would you be provided with a $50,000+ of private representation? or would you get on of those Public Defender people?
    1. Agit8r
      spam often?
  13. celticmusicfan
well same thing applies here. nowadays cops do look healthy than ordinary citizens

      Spamburger

Is anybody really surprised by this ruling? In America, the rich get richer, even when everybody else is getting poorer. Don't think so? Check out your local banker, pharmaceutical rep or doctor.
    1. Agit8r
this isn't so much about rich or poor, but rather arbitrary power, and the shameless cronyism that protects it.
